y I luv DAMN U so much... Its the sweeping melody...
Its the careful yet playful and nonchalant way Prince is singing the lyrics Its the dramatic way the musical mood of the song is Its the key changes Its the simple yet effective lyrics Its the way his voice goes up and down in the song Its the way I play it over and over and love it more and more each time it plays. There are other ballads of his that I love but this one tops the list for me. &

yes. that, and don't forget it's predecessor "like animals, just want to breed... etc." It is a stellar performance. I like the video of it on 3 Chains O Gold too. tres classy. My thoughts exactly! The way his voice tumbles down is too cool. I always have to listen to it more than once: 555-4444 you're on coffee talk.

Superb I was there . Lucky bastard! I still watch that concert now - the part where he wears the chain mask playing guitar and sings bits of 'It' is probably the highlight for me.

You should then listen to the bootleg Poor Little Bastard as it is very similar, but much more moving and superior in my opinion.

Damn U is one of my favourite Prince songs ever!
I love it! I could never get sick of this song. When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading.

I've always found it silly and insincere.
A lot of people here seem to dislike Slow Love, but Slow Love is twenty times better than this orchestral dirge.

Can't mess with the music and vocal delivery. After all that's where it's really at. . "You don't frighten us, English pig dogs. Go and boil your bottoms, sons of a silly person."

"Sweet Baby" is the best ballad on the album...much more powerful, in my opinion.

Both 'Slow Love' and 'Damn U' are highly derivative musical pieces, particularly the orchestration, and some have even called those pieces successful pastiches of said style. That "big band" sound was all the rage in the late 20's, and kudos to Eric Leeds and co. for their efforts.
But, in the final analysis, I have to say I prefer 'Damn U'. . "You don't frighten us, English pig dogs. Go and boil your bottoms, sons of a silly person."
