Anyone know anything about that rumored acoustic album "Heart" from the mid-'90s...

Boris, anyone? Is there any corroboration for this? Did this turn into The Truth? I think The Truth was all recorded after Emancipation, so this may be a separate album - who knows?

This is the kind of question I'd love NPGMC to provide answers to.

Yea, I remember "Heart" from mid 1995 or so. I do believe that is what eventually became "The Truth". I think he worked on it in two parts around the "Emancipation" sessions. Once right before and one right after. I believe there was once a song called "Emaciated Heart" that was eventually dropped in favor of "The Truth".

That's the past, though...

Anyone hear anything about a possible album called "Grass Roots"???!!!

No. Old? New?

I'm starting to remember seeing a handwritten tracklist for Heart, posted a while ago, which I think developed into The Gold Experience. When I originally read about the album, it was back in '94-ish.

The only thing I know about "Heart" is that is was
mentioned in some lengthy review of the [then] Gold
Experience boot back in early 1995.

I don't think I've ever heard of Prince talking
about that particular album. It seems more likely
that it was something that would possibly be offered
to Warners as contractual filler.

To me, it seems very unlikely that "The Truth" has
anything to do with "Heart". "Heart" was gonna be
a blues album anyway.

Where did you get that from? Prince said he'd recorded a blues album ("not The Undertaker") in Guitar Player magazine, but I think I remember reading Heart was going to be acoustic. But then, the handwritten tracklist was an early version of TGE (with "Heart" written at the top).

Stranger and stranger...

It said so in that same review, the exact words were

"a straight-up blues album called 'Heart'".

Interesting. Now this is the kind of album he could put in a 7CD set of oddities and sell on NPGMC. That would get me more excited than The Chocolate Invasion (and if he cancelled it, that would get me more upset too).

Prince cursed at the time, so we'll probably never see "Heart". Little fucker probably cut the tapes up.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.
