Prince in Calgary Alberta Canada

Hey I was wondering who saw prince in 1997 on the Jam Of The Year tour, and Prince in 2002 on his One Nite Alone tour here in Calgary, Alberta, Canada?

I couldn't go to the ONA show. sad

Even if you didn't go to the shows, at least type lurking if you are from this city!

I talked to someone's girlfriend who said the boyfriend posted on the org but I forget whose name.

My first Prince show was that one in Calgary. A friend called from there and him, his girlfriend, and three of my friends, and myself drove in from Manitoba to see Prince at the saddledome. We were on the floor, but I made a move past security to get closer, which was great. Prince was electrifying, lots of dance moves, great guitar. Surprises included the sparseness of the stage (a couple of big lions on each side?), the out of nowhere confusion to the start of the show (which was Graham Central Station, an unannounced opener), Let's Work, and Purple Rain almost right off the bat, and a Are Your Titties Real segue into Face Down. I saw a ONA show in Regina, very different, appreciated the musicianship, acoustics in small venue, but Prince was not near the showman (fewer hard dance moves, predetermined stage banter). Set composed of a large amount of unknown material. Not really sure which was better, but loved both. What are your memories of Calgary show?

Jam Of The Year Tour

I think I was still just an 80s head in 1997, so I was like "who in the fuck is Graham Central Station?" when they started the concert. I was looking at "GCS" on the stage curtain like "what the hell is that, isn't this prince ?" But I knew the Sly songs they were playing so I enjoyed it and of course learned more about 70s funk in the following years. Kinda wish I could go back and see it knowing what I know now!

prince's show started with a audio montage of some of the hits he would perform that night, but he didn't perform "7" even though that was like the final song featured in the montage.

I remember I was writing down the songs prince performed in his performance so I could assemble a different mixtape from the list. He was segueing alot of songs together which seemed frustrating. Almost like a medley of songs.. I remember he sandwiched 2 lines from "Scandalous" into another slow jam (probably "Do Me Baby").

One part he was on the piano and singing "Girls And Boys" which I love, and I thought more people should know it because it had been featured on 1996's Girl 6 soundtrack. But he would sing "Vous etes tres belle, mama" then put his hand to his ear for the crowd to sing back and it was SO QUIET!!! No one was singing it real loud. He did the hook like 3 times and I just wanted to scream "girrrls and boyyss!!" and I bet he would have heard me because yeah the whole Saddledome was like cluelessly murmuring the response line. I missed my chance though.

I was really energized by the show, with prince screaming "AAOOOWA!" - I did that scream once outside after the concert eek
