If there are remasters with bonus tracks...

... would you want the bonus tracks:

  • added at the end, after the original final track?

  • mixed in with the orginal album tracks, making the whole album an extended version?

  • on a separate disc, making each album a 2CD set, even if that bumped up the price?

Seperate disc, so as not to mess with the original configuration of the albums...

u mean Prince-albums or in general?
For Prince, i would prefer releases of the original concepts (if there were any) like 'Crystal Ball', 'The Dawn',
'Come' etc.
-Purple Rain extended with the B-Sides, The Time/Apollonia 6/Dez Dickerson tracks.
-Black Album/Lovesexy double cd.
Further, i would like a Box-Set with all the 12"-inches nod

Don't care as long as Prince doesn't get to touch them !

I'm terrified of another "The new master" situation !

bonus at the end, with ample space between the last album track, and the bonus tracks, like on the Elton John remasters from 1995 and since...

Which means 1999 would have to be a 2cd set. But probably the only one. It depends tho' up to which album they are gonna remaster. If they do GB and D&P then they would probably have to be 2cd sets as well. Beyond D&P the sound quality is pretty damn fine.

I was thinking of Prince albums, but more generally I'm thinking about all remasters with bonus tracks.

I've thought about this too - this could be really cool, except his albums went through so much development, so which version would you choose? If you chose to include all tracks from the sessions, it wouldn't be a 'true' album. Needless to say, there would also be a huge overlap. SOTT would need to be remastered, but most of the tracks would also be on Dream Factory and/or Crystal Ball...

true, but then i'd hope they would do GB with just the Prince tracks, and get rid of all that other crap it's been saddled with for 13 years. and the D&P sound quality is comparable to later stuff, the volume just isn't turned up on it like CD's from recent years are.

SOTT would fit onto 1 CD! In fact i burnt countless compilations of 'Original concepts', it's always a search for the 'definite' version of something. I think it was Boris who posted a great version of 'The Dawn' on three CD's

I'd prefer to hear complete alternative albums, so in the same general order from start to finish but with alternate/extended versions and the extra tracks in the right place. If Prince were to compile such versions (while in a straight mind!) then I reckon the albums would work well. Imagine a Purple Rain that was longer with some alternate or longer versions of some tracks. I reckon it would work.
Life it ain't real funky unless you got that orgPop.

SEPARATE DISC PLEASE

We're all old and wise and well-equiped enough to make our
own final versions of albums right now. So just provide us
with the separate bonus material in excellent quality and
we'll take it from there, thank you very much

Mixed in.

We've already got the original disc with the original songs in the original order. Mix the buggers in and give us something different.

Sticking them at the end is pointless. And what could follow Purple Rain?

Of course its wishful thinking, but I'd like 2 CDs but mixed up. I would hate it is we got it remastered, with just the B-sides as extra tracks. Thats a cop put.

Uusing Purple Rain as an example, I like:

Disc 1

1. Lets Go Crazy (Full Film Version)
2. Take Me With U (Unreleased Long Version)
3. The Beautiful Ones (Unreleased Long Version)
4. Computer Blue (Unreleased Long Version)
5. Darling Nikki (Unreleased Long Version)
6. When Doves Cry
7. I Would Die 4 U (Unreleased Unedited Version)
8. Baby I'm A Star (Unreleased Unedited Version)
9 .Purple Rain (Unreleased Unedited Version)

Disc 2

1. G-Spot
2. God Instrumental
3. Jungle Love
4. Sex Shooter (Long Version)
6. The Bird (Studio Version)
7. Wednesday
8. Modernaire Modernaire
9. 17 Days
10. God
11. Erotic City
12. Another Lonely Xmas (Full version)
13. Electric Intercourse

Like I say, I wish...

Interesting that people want the associated artists' tracks added to Purple Rain, but taken off Grafitti Bridge...

Should all the albums be remastered? Until the end of WB or even beyond?

Would you want the 'original' album concepts like Dream Factory too, ending up in a situation like the Rolling Stones' remasters, where there's substantial overlap between releases, or simply have the 'extra' tracks as bonuses on the previously-released albums?

Should an album like Rave really be released again?

I'd imagine that only the 'big' profitable albums would be remastered.

Personally i'd prefer them on a separate disc, making each album a 2CD set, even if that bumps up the price.

Though appreciating that a high price and two discs may intimidate casual buyers i'd be happy with the bonus tracks added at the end of the cd, after a suitable interval.

To be honest i think most of us would just be happy with seeing the cds remastered with no alterations to the lyrical content

lol - true. I've read threads about both of these ideas in the past, though - this isn't all based on this thread.

I don't know. Look at the recent Stones or Dylan remasters. The recent Pet Shop Boys remasters were all double disc sets, with the 1st CD remastered without bonus tracks, and the 2nd disc containing 'further listening' - I doubt they all sold many copies (although I don't think they were reissued here in the US).

To be honest i think most of us would just be happy with seeing the cds remastered with no alterations to the lyrical content

Not me... and in fact, if this shit ever were to come out, which it won't, I have the hookups to get it all for free... So as far as I am concerned, they could charge $500 per disc and it wouldn't affect me one bit.

What's the point of a separate CD of "bonus" tracks? You'd just be buying CD1 again for no reason.

If they don't mix them in, or else give alternate versions of the "main" songs, then they might as well not bother IMHO.

Of course, I don't actually think these remastered CDs with bonus tracks will actually come out.
We might get repackaged (and repromoted) CDs, but that's all.

for me, it would depend on what album we're talking about. specifically, crystal ball/dream factory. i would want that in its original, unreleased tracklisting. most of the other stuff wouldn't matter to me. a double disc or at the end of the disc (like mj's remastered ed.) is fine by me. most importantly, just get them out there!
