Purple Rain movie question...

I was wondering if anyone knows if Purple Rain was ever available in widescreen on VHS or even laserdisc.

WB said that they have no plans to re-realese Purple Rain in W i D E S c R E e n. I read that someplace on one of those DVD boards.

I have Purple Rain on Laser Disc and DVD either one is not Widescreen. Sad really It needs to Be remastered and cleaned up and put out like it's suppose to be. I see a 2-disc set with extras and extras and more extras.

Hopefully One day they will do it.

Region 1 is only for USA

Region 2 is Europe

Region 4 is Australia

unless you can find a all regions DVD player. But not sure if it will work in the USA since our tv signals are different than Europe and Australia.

Then you think wrong...
The Region 2 and Region 4 discs are Widescreen, they just lack the trailer on the disc whereas the Region 1 disc is not Widescreen but has the trailer on it as a bonus...

I'd rather have Widescreen!

Pan & Scan is aweful!!! It ruins the vision of the Director & mostly the Director of Photography! sad

man.. if there is anyway someone could figure a way to record the widescreen dvd's .. to another dvd for us Region 1 people..that would be great!!!

The movie industry took pains to make sure that DVDs as a standard, are copy-protected. But, where there's a will...

The problem with these European discs is that most of the current DVD players sold in America will play them just fine but the televisions or monitors won't read the PAL signal coming from them.

I've never seen a movie at a cinema playing 4:3, it's a safe bet it was shown in Letterbox.

The film was shot widescreen. Not 2.35:1. More like 1.85:1. Not as wide as traditional "Epics", but still widescreen. You would see thinner black bars on the top and bottom of a 4:3 TV when it makes it to widescreen DVD.
