I think she helped develop the baseline for "The Love We Make".. I could be wrong.. check the liner notes. Not sure if she actually played on the album.

The song is "emale" , but the version on "emancipation" is a re-recorded version without Me-Shell.
The songs is based on a jam played by o(+> and Me'shell in New-York.

I heard that the song was "Emale". They worked together on the song. I know that over the July 4th holiday in 1996, they played together in a New York City studio. Unfortunately Meshell doesn't appear on the released version for contractual reasons.

In the liner notes for that song, he thanks 'Shiva', this is a reference to Me'Shell. (She wrote a song with Wendy called "God Shiva" on "Peace Beyond Passion".

I remember thinking that there was some guitar stuff on "Cookie" that sounded awfully damn Princey...and for that matter, there's some guitar work on "Comfort Woman" that sounds pretty purple, too...just sayin'...wink

Everytime I hear "Pocketbook", I think of "Feel u up". Seems like there might be some purple influence on that track also.

on Emancipation the two songs were "Emale" & "The Love We Make"...

Meshell collaborated with The Artist in N.Y. studio session on the bass lines and melodies. Neither of the tracks include her actual playing. For contractual reasons, credited as Shiva by The Artist: "Re-recorded in Minneapolis after New York paved the way.
Thanks, Shiva."

As for HER records having Prince secretly playing guitar...i seriously doubt it (even though she was a big ol Prince fan back in the day herself)...but Prince playing on her records? nahh she's got her OWN gang of mindblowing guitar players that are responsible for a lot of the amazing guitar work on her records...

"Alan Cato"...
is the man without a doubt (can play EXPLOSIVELY AND SUBTLY with such a connection to the compositions and such emotion in his sound it seems like it's just 'SUPPOSED to be'. Check out his work on "Trust" & "Jabril" from Cookie. The dude is amazing. He has also played live with her for over ten years...and what he does live is mindblowing...I have a recording of show he did with her at the 2000 Montreux Jazz Fest that will leave your jaw dropping to the floor. Powerful stuff.)

"Doyle Bramhall II" is another guitarist she works with (an explosive player responsible for some great POWERFUL solos including the electrifying one in the album version of "Liliquoi Moon". Doyle has played on meshells records for years. He's also worked with Wendy & Lisa multiple times as well.)

"David Fiuczynski" played with Meshell a lot in the early days...another explosive solo type player...in fact he is responsible for the lead solo work on "God Shiva" (with Wendy playing guitar on that track as well)

want more on Meshell...
