Since the album doesn't hold an enormous interest with me,
I never really got into all these 2004 re-release threads
on here.

But I see the subject popping up everywhere now, it's like
a fungus that spread it's way through the org from border
to border.

I'm just wondering though, is this re-master/re-release
really going to happen. As in: it is confirmed and so it
shall be done.

Or is it just speculation that got turned into "fact" by
fans with no real solid proof to go on?

And does it concern only the film or the album as well???

Somehow, I just can't see it happening from Prince's own
point of view. It would be too simple, too obvious and
perhaps, too sane.

If he can do a re-release and remaster of that film and
or album, than why is it impossible to do the same with
his other best albums??

I haven't seen any official notes about it anywhere. And yes, it does seem waaay too obvious for Prince to get behind. BUT, if he did, and it sold well, it could maybe open the gates to other albums being remastered. Like Blondie says, Dreaming is free...

Absolutely not. Besides, what the hell is a "20" year
aniversary anyway? Shouldn't it be "10" or "25" ?

20 is like a fogged up wasteland where you get to make
your own decision on wether to call it a celebration or
simply pass it up.

As for being absolutely certain, I believe that this or the next month will reveal the truth in this matter. If major releases are planned for next year, we are bound to know in the near future.

PS: If PR can get a re-release, the other albums will surely follow. It's none or all.

And from Prince's camp a couple of months ago when they cultivated a new carrot (the "Purple Rain" DVD with outtakes) when everyone had to send in their boots and other unofficial stuff...

Come on , if theres a chance he can make some extra $$$ whilst back tracking on a few principles the of course hes gonna do it, look at the set list for the last few gigs. Also he must feel that it is only rightful that he gets another Purple Rain pay day as he feels so siffed by WB.

Last month people kept dropping hints around the org about November was going to hold big surprises for Prince fans.
So far the only surprise is the indefinite delay of TCI. Gee a Prince cd gets delayed - BIG SURPRISE.
The Purple Rain release is a rumor with no evidence to back it up yet - just like most rumors around here.

If he didn't take advantage of the new millenium (and you know that everyone wanted him to perform in 1999), I can't see him doing anything with Purple Rain 5 years later. The 1999 LP is more special to me anyway.

Isn't the call to do it Warner Brothers? Don't they decide to do it or not?

If so, they may do it without his input.

I don't know who has control (obviously)...

This rumor is so widespread that some of us are convinced that it will happen...lol...but I won't get excited until we get an official confirmation.

i dunno, but i'm still dreadin next june...i know most of ya'll are probably gonna come here to minneapolis and be standin outside first avenue, lickin/kissin the walls or sumfin in homage.

Yeah, but if they did they would only be able to clean up an mixed master. They do not own all the tracks for each song. So it could never be a complete RE-MASTER since they need the orignal track recordings to do this. Also if they were to add extra songs etc. If they were never release offically by WB then they can not add them with out his permission as well. So if he has no input the whole re-issue of the album would be mute since it just would be a cleaner old master.
