Emancipation! FREE! To do what I wanna!

I almost forgot Emancipation is 7 years old today. Let's all sing happy birthday and load the cd changer.

This album took some time to grow on me. I fell hard for it a couple of years ago and have grown to truly love it. You?

I've always liked this album. I listened to it non-stop for about the first eighteen months following its release.

I was going to post a birthday celebration thread myself. Thanks for starting one...

I was very disappointed the day I bought Emancipation. I was expecting a 3CD set of tracks like The Gold Experience - of course, he got rid of that band right after C&D, although it seems he recorded many of these tracks solo even while that band was around.

All in all, I couldn't help feeling he rushed this album just to show he was prolific and could release a triple album the same week he was released from his WB contract. I wish there were more 'real' instruments, and he recorded more with a band.

I would absolutely love to hear this album re-recorded with the new band (minus We Gets Up, Get Yo Groove On etc.) - this band could do something amazing with these songs...

7 years old?!

eek damn...

I don't love the album, but there are songs on there
that I love:

'Right Back Here In My Arms'
'In This Bed Eye Scream'
'Joint 2 Joint'
'Dreamin' About U'
'Saviour'
...pretty much all of disc 2 really
'The Love We Make'

...all great tracks.

Emancipation is a great album, full stop!!! Probably he's best of the 90s! With songs like The Holy River, Jam of the Year, The Love We Make, Sleep Around, In ths Bed I Scream. There's something for everyone, truly a classic album from the Artist.

It's the best general release of his in the 90's. The Truth is the only album of his from that decade that I prefer.

WOW. 7 years??? Hard to believe. I was disappointed when I first heard, because I it wasn't what I expected. But I really came to love it when I let it be what it was, not what I wanted it to be. Like Cloudbuster, it was on constant rotation for me for several months. It was sooo much to absorb. That said, I rarely listen to it now, so when I do it's always a delight. THANKS, o(+>.
let me come over it's a beautiful day to play with you in the dark

I just finished listening to Emancipation throughout the day to give it another chance, and you know what, it's a pretty good album...

There are some songs I can do without, but on the whole it's a fun, lively, upbeat celebration. Some nice grooves, the occasional original riff or two, and a few great tracks.

Even Betcha By Golly Wow! sounded pretty good when listening to it this morning!

Hmmm, maybe I've been a little rough on the 7-year-old...
