Patti LaBelle & Chaka Khan's Per4mances In Family Jamm-Do U Feel About This Too?

I read this review about Chaka & Patti which is FAR from flattering and I wanna know if you guys share the same feelings like this person:

CHAKA KAHN
I think it was at this point that Carmen introduced Chaka to do I FEEL 4 U, but it could have been after. Anyway, nothing very impressive. Another Karaoke performance, to the house band, even worse than Apollonia's. I've heard that Chaka suffers from a horrible stage fright these days and maybe that explains it, but she seemed to let the audience sing the tune while she wailed her usual screams out. The band was adequate, but I've decided I don't like Chaka; I think she's full of it and a little too much diva attention has allowed her to 'get fat'. Literally.

PATTI LABELLE
This was cute. She came out to perform YO MISTER and just totally rocked. She's good at performing even the most awkward material and making it work, but what was funny is that by the second verse she had no idea what the lyrics were and had her eyes glued to the floor where it became obvious a lyric sheet was taped. Eventually she got fed up with it and knelt down to scoop up the sheets and proceeded to sing right off the papers, like it was rehearsal! Handled like a pro I say! Afterwards she said, "That was a song Prince wrote for me a thousand years ago – I didn't know the lyrics then, and I still don't know them now – that‘s why Miss Patti had to bend down and pick the damn paper up to sing the damn song!" Cracked us all up. She did her wailing routine a bit which can be annoying, but she's another one who 'gets it' - in a different way - but she just ‘gets it'.

All I have to say is DAMN mad

But then again that person RAVED Jill Jones as the highlight and dissed the shit out of Patti & Chaka so there u go.

For those who attended the family jamm,,,what do you think?

Harlepolis, I wasn't there, but I GOTTA defend Miss Patti: Perhaps more than any other performer at the Family Jamm, Ms. Labelle has her own thing going on. I'd say even more so than Chaka, who's nothing to sneeze at (she's fierce, even if I don't always like her stuff).

Patti's been around for DECADES, was extremely successful in her own right long before Prince produced a few songs of hers. If anything, her comical handling of the lyrics sheet (and the admission that she never really knew the lyrics anyway) is proof that woman deserves every accolade paid her. She's a pro, has pipes for days and is just the sweetest woman offstage, gracious and kind.

Patti might forget more about showbiz and class than most entertainers might hope to ever learn.

I was in the restroom when Mrs. Patti starting singing. This guy started yelling at his gf, he was pissed because she was making him miss her performance.
When I came out she had the paper in her hand by then. I think she pulled it off very well. Her voice is always amazing. I wish she had done more of her famous wailing.
And she looked very sharp. She was just glowing onstage.

Now Chaka, she could have done a Morris & nobody would have missed her. Her voice was off & i did'nt think she was ever feelin it. Now u could say I had bad seats too. But that was no problem at this point. I swear I saw her camel toe from where I was sitting!!

Like other people did, the venue was so empty my daughter & I moved a little closer after her performance.

I thought Patti's performance was cute.

Chaka looked like a cross between a whore and a bag lady and sounded like she could care less. Not very enthusiastic.

they were both perfroming songs that were written by Prince. "Yo mister" pales in coparision to ms. labelle's other work, plus she forgot the words, therefore it was nowhere near being one of the best performances. It was till cute and enjoyable.

Chaka could've been great, but she looked and sounded like she didn't give a damn. I was VERY glad when she left the stage.

I did't attend the concert but,I must say when Chaka Khan opened for Prince a few years ago she tore it up. Her band was a thousand times better than the Emancipation NPG era band. I think from this person's comments that they don't like RnB female singers. If these comments came from this board that would not be a big surprise.

You had to be there to know what they're talking about. Believe it of not, Chaka wasn't that great.

As far as Chaka's performance it was uninspired. This is probably because of her performing with the house band. Chaka usually always turns it out, but she's the diva of her own clan and they were not there to support her. You have to give it to her for her skat improv, that was cool. She's seems to have gained like a 100 pounds though, I couldn't believe how round she was.

Patti is just "real"...she was great and you didn't even care if she knew the words or not. It would have been cool though if she did "I Hear Your Voice" and tore it up.

Jill Jones was over before she even started...to me she was off key and just screaming. I would have liked to hear her perform "Baby, You're A Trip" or "77 Bleeker St."she looked great. eek)

Chaka Khan sucked, Patti Labelle was OK, except for her over the top wailing at times, and Apollonia was horrible and she wasn't good to look at, too many flabs hanging over her way too tight skirt...
Jill Jones was fucking great, Madhouse even more amazing and The Revolution were just that... The Revolution... Fucking kickass...
The Family was surprisingly good and ripped it right up...
The Time was as usual...
And well Sheila is always good, she could sit down on a stool for an hour doing nothing and I'd still be entertained...

Neversin.

lol

I told my friend that she looked like a bag lady too. I was in the front row and you could almost smell smoke from those spandex and she was totally not into it. She barely even looked out from underneath her hat.

Patti was cute and she was good for Yo Mister but it figures that she'd remember the words to Purple Rain dammit. I was enjoying just hearing Wendy sing it.

Goddamn, so many bashing against my girl up in here lol but I won't be mad cuz I wasn't there(and I'm fimiliar with Chaka's "I don't feel like doing it" attitude) so its maybe true.

I was not at this concert but, I know how hard people are on RnB performers on this board. Chaka may have had a bad attitude as she has a reputation but, to say her voice is wailing is a bit much.

Excuse me? Seeing that on this board, many think Prince is, as someone once said before, the center of the muscial universe, people are hard on EVERYTHING, it's not exclusive to r&b, I don't know where you got that from.
Chaka may have had a bad attitude as she has a reputation but, to say her voice is wailing is a bit much.

You weren't there, as I've said before she sang it VERY unentusiastic, that's why it wasn't a great performance.
I know chaka is wonderful live, I've seen her before, but that night she wasn't.

That's the problem I have with her debut album...too much yelling and screaming.Jill can sing, but she doesn't really know how to "control" her voice, and when to hit the lower notes.
