You and Ur Prince collection

Do you feel as if your Prince collection has become apart of who you are as a person?

Prince music has always been apart of my life. The Music has been around since I was a child and I guess it eventually rub off on me, subconcisely. At first when I became a fan, I just about a couple of Prince CD's here and there, then over the yrs as my collection grew as well as my musical taste, it seems like my Prince collection has become apart of my life and apart of who I am. It's hard to imagine my life without it.

trying to imagine hrmph

Can anybody else relate?

Yup, I can !!
I can't do a day without P's music.
I don't need to know all about him but I def need to hear his music every day !!
And if I wouldn't have a facination with his work as much as I did, I'd probably not been around anymore !!

I can relate! I've been a fan since I was 2 years old, which will be going on 20 years next Thursday when I turn 22. Prince's music has been the soundtrack 2 my life. I try 2 collect any and everything that has his name attached 2 it. It's hard 2 imagine having 2 give up my collection or 2 imagine Prince not being in my life. My ultimate goal is 2 meet him, and just tell him "Thank U". I recently made a religious conversion, and my girlfriend is telling me that in order 4 me 2 grow closer 2 Christ, I'll have 2 give up listening 2 worldly music, especially Prince. I've heard from other Christians that it's okay 4 me 2 listen 2 my music and still listen 2 Prince (and others) because God looks at your heart. My girlfriend and people like her tell me different. I'm very confused. But if I had 2 give it up, I would. But only 4 Christ. If I don't have 2, then I wont because Prince's music has kept me from so much.

I can relate ... I had 2 go through that as well, but you know what, the truth is, you don't really have 2 answer 2 anybody else but God, so you really shouldn't let anybody judge you. cuz it's not in their place to. Nobody is higher then anybody, we all get judge by the same sins according the law (says the testament) and everybody falls short of the glory. Not to make this a whole religious discussion, but it’s like …. When it really comes down it you just have to go with what your heart tell you to do. Which is the reason why I guess I've been a Prince fan 4 so long. I just have a soft spot 4 Prince in my heart nod.

Totally relate. Prince is the biggest part of my life in that who I am now was formed in my discovery and journey with him. It is so much more than the music it is the feeling that come from it, the understanding that comes from hearing the words. Sometimes the words of another seem to work out just fine. I was seraching for answers and I when I took the time look beneath the surface of what his lyrics contained it all clicked, love, relationships, sprituality, God, the whole kit and kaboodle!
In the distance a light shines and I know it is mine. Someday I will touch it because it calls me. It says cross the line, cross the line. I know everything is not always what it seems, so I pinch myself daily just in case it's a dream

In the 80's I felt that way hardcore. I even thought, recently, about writing a movie script (American Pie-style) about my youth and the Prince obsession. It was me and 3 friends. They were all brothers. So picture a small southern town with 3 black kids and one white kid.

All acting like Prince... Even trying to dress like him (Purple Rain/1999 style).

I even had my fucking hair dyed black and permed...

We had a wall completely covered with posters, articles, pics, etc.

All the while dealing with "regular" people in this redneck town.

I think that would make a hilarious movie...
I've reversed the polarity of the neutron flow... Now to find a way to exterminate Melody Cool and Rosie Gaines... blowupshoot3sperm

Sounds like you need to give up your girlfriend instead.

Don't listen to what anyone says...follow you heart and what makes you happy.

I remember reading in a Kate Bush fanzine about a fan that got told by their church that Kate made devil's music and it was all about witchcraft, so this person threw out their entire vinyl collection!! Some time later they came to their senses and started rebuilding it.
This shocked me, and I started imagining being separated from my Prince collection and deciding I would never part with it, even if I sort of go off Prince now and then, I always come back and I'm glad I never got rid of any of it.

Yes, Lisa (mmmh, it sounds like Computer Blue lol). My collection is a part of my life. I'm very proud of it, and I feel like to increase it.

When I was a kid, collecting Prince was all I was about. Then it hit late 1998.

Since then I have just kept in touch with what he has released album-wise, and not much else.

It is not really a part of my day to day life anymore, but listening to Prince during many of my formative years certainly helped shape my attitudes towards art, sex, and many other topics. so while I don't listen to his stuff nearly as much as I used to, his influence will always be there.
