4 Prince Albums in Rolling Stone's Greatest Albums List

Any guesses as to which 4 albums they would be? Smart money says:

'Dirty Mind'
'1999'
'Purple Rain'
'Sign O' The Times'

Here is the link to the article. Apparently, the list hasn't yet been published.

Yeah, it is...

but I just have a feeling Rolling Stone would
put 'Dirty Mind' in their greatest albums list,
rather than 'Lovesexy'.

Lovesexy
1999
SOTT
Purple Rain

They would be my 4. Not my top 4 P, but my guess of the opinion of the mainstream, if you know what I mean!

My top 4 BTW would be:

PR
SOTT
TRC
ATWIAD. No Gold. No ATWIAD. Lovesexy! Damn it I can't decide!!

It's really not a mystery if you have those old
Rolling Stone issues where they rate albums by
decade, and/or since the magazine's inception in
1967. In their greatest albums of the 80s issue
these are listed for Prince (in various order):

Dirty Mind
1999
Purple Rain
Sign O' The Times.

At least a couple of times (if memory serves me)
their poll of readers and critics named Prince albums
as album of the year - once it was 1999, I remember that
for a fact.

I can't say I disagree with the Prince albums from that
decade they picked. But much like the music industry itself,
Rolling Stone lost its way and gathered moss. It's not all
the same quality writers, critics, or contributors that used to be there.

What once was a great magazine that was varied in its content, and
musically relevent, Rolling Stone is musically relevant no more.

Just take a look at the cover stories of recent years and that tells the whole story.

Jann Wenner sold his soul, and now runs a pop culture
version of People Magazine.

Wasn't there an issue similar to this published not so long ago. I'm sure those were the albums mentioned and I think The Beatles, Stones and Dylan were the only other artists to have more albums listed.

Can't disagree with anything you said. Although in some recent online articles RS has warmed up nicely to 'Parade'. Probably not enough to unseat any of the 'Big 4', but I honestly feel it's a better collection of tunes than those on 'Purple Rain'.
