If Prince were 2 do an album of old standards, like Cyndi Lauper and Rod Stewart, what would U like to hear?

I would imagine it would be mostly RnB, so I would hope to
hear old Motown classics...what are your thoughts?

1. Just My Imagination
2. Cruisin'
3. My Girl
4. As We Lay- put his spin on this classic from Shirley Murdock
5. Play That Funky Music
6. Betcha Bye Golly Wow
7. Midnight Train To Georgia

There's so many more...
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

GEEZ! evil

I already want to blast a hole deep in
uzi Rod Stewart's hoarse singing arse!
Damn! He sounds terrible!! barf

Now you tell me Cyndi Lauper's hammer also got one out? barf barf

Best idea is to leave the covers to the live gigs. Maybe 1 or 2 in a release, but a whole album of covers is unnecessary for an artist with any kind of originality.

UH OH. err

Ron Isley did one of Burt Bacharach songs. Might have to eat my words!

This topic is scaring me boxed

And just how is a guy who shoots off at the mouth about not performing his own standards going to cover someone else's material.

I love Prince. He can be a real clown sometimes but I've learned more about the industry by following him than I could have ever learned in any book.

God, I hope Prince never releases an entire album of old standard covers - one here and there is okay, but not a whole album! My dad has the Rod Stewart 2 albums and the day we start liking the same music is the day I feel very old! I mean, Rod does an okay job on them, but I think you've pretty much reached the end of your creative days if that's all you can think to put out - something exceedingly safe and non-controversial.

Renato Neto plays keyboards on one of the songs on Rod's album you know...

danielboon...

It's cool that U mention the Cole Porter stuff... There's actually a parralell between him and Prince in their lyrics.

Both songwriters had to be creative in order to cleverly disguise what they were actually saying. Granted... Prince got a few direct shots in, like: "I sincerely wanna fuck the taste outta your mouth...", but for the most part, he used clever metaphors, etc, to get around the label. Most Cole Porter songs were about sex...

Peace!

G.

Every song he performed live from before his own career. definately!

and don't compare him to the sinatra feel, look to parade for that! he did it already.
Prince is also uncomparable to mofo rodsteward (although i liked Roddy when he did D'ya Think I'm Sexy and Infatuation.) wink :hmmm:
