Did it get as far as being given a catalogue number? It was privately manufactured by Prince with no Warner Bros involvement. . [This message was edited Mon Nov 17 12:24:50 PST 2003 by langebleu] ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.

put otherwise, how can I recognize an original?

put otherwise, how can I recognize an original? The lacquer that was sprayed on it to prevent it from playing might still be intact? The disc was a 'picture' disc, so someone might post the swirly image that was printed on the original. . . Just in case you're thinking of bidding on the one on ebay right now, that's a boot. Not authentic.

I would imagine the price difference would tell the difference between an original, or not.
I'm 90% sure that the clear hub on the disc says 'The Undertaker' though.

The inner rim of the disc itself has this on it: #930902H UNDERTAKER MFG BY CINRAM INC. and that's it... Neversin. O(+>NIИ<+)O

As Neversin said, there is no catalogue number. Just the
manufacturing number on the inner rim of the disc. (most of the early independant NPG releases didn't have catalogue numbers). Prince was in the process of printing up cover art for The Undertaker when WB found out about it and stopped it from being produced. Unfortunately, the cover art never surfaced (and to my knowledge has never even been seen by anyone outside Prince's circle). Genuine copies of the album have no cover. The disc itself is screenprinted with a swirly psychedelic pattern (including a symbol) and has the 'compact disc' logo printed on it... that's it.

Got a boot in damn good quality myself, but would love to own an original. Need to eat though. £249 is about the cheapest I've ever seen it.
Since bootleg copies are such A+ quality though, only the die-hard collector would purchase an original. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

This one which went at ebay some 24 hours ago presumably was the real deal:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eB...43634&rd=1 It went for US $143.50, quite a bargain I'd say. But there were one or two others at ebay which are boots (those with the pink covers). Wolf
