Celebration 2002: How was it?

I know, old news but still! Just to make things clear, I'm not asking for a full disclosure of what happened (e.g. how were the shows, what did P. play, etc...I own the boots, so I don't need that) but rather how the atmosphere and the mood were?

In more precise termes, was it a cultish "fam" gathering or a cool hang-out event with fans eager to interact and learn more about Prince?

Thanks for your posts!

I also thought it was great, it was my 2nd fav celebration yet (my fav being the 1st, least fav being the 2nd). I didn't think it was cultish at all...lots of open minds and friendly hearts. The atmosphere was much more relaxed and easy going than past years. Ya know, 'let your hair down' kinda atmosphere. I liked it MUCH better with members only, it gave you that exclusive feeling smile

The only night that kind of sucked was the second ONA show on Weds night. He wasn't into it at all.
Prince may be the purple Yoda, but Wendy & Lisa and Eric Leeds also sit on the Jedi Council.

It was a fantastic experience...some of the most stressful yet best days I´ve had in the past few years...the people were great ( BillySparxxx, Ben&Val, Matt,Bobby and the Bay Area guys, Robin, Shondraye from Ohio, Joe and Natalie from AZ, simply a great time among great people, all enjoying every night..( well, maybe not the second night)...down to earth yet very special people, plus I met a good friend of mine in MN and spent 4th of July with him and Morris, had a fantastic time in beautiful Minnesota ( about a month) and enjoyed the hospitality and warmth of the Minnesotans...the weather was weird ( humid, then baking hot, then humid, thunderstorms, rain, rain, RAIN, lots of rain, driving 120MPH from St.Paul to Chanhassen wondering why I never got pulled over by the police ( and I HATE speeding, but it was necessary...NPGMC is a major stress factor, but that´s another story...).it was a great week, especially meeting so many diverse people from all over the US and the world...amazing...also cool talking to bandmembers like Eric Leeds and others...the shows were tight , except for the second night and his performances of " God " and "Condition Of the Heart " ..those are among my favourite songs, never would have thought he could ruin them ( Rachel Farrel and Musiq contributed to the latter..! not so nice...)
Great, everlasting memories...had a wonderful time in MN !
Especially the night when he played Paisley Park and the night he played Something In the Water gave me goosebumps...
Charts or not, has been or washed up singer, Jehovah´s Witness or even Larry G, I dont care, that week showed me once more that there´s only one Prince on this planet, what he´s still capable of and why I love his music .

Minnesota has only about 20 Highway Patrol for the entire state. You may have noticed how shitty and rude Minnesota drivers are. This could be a major factor.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

It depends...my experience was that they´re probably the most patient and easygoing drivers I´ve ever seen..I mean somehow my car drove backwards at the trafficlights even though the gear was on " D " , not " R ", and I hit the guy behind me..he didn´t even say a word, didn´t show any reaction at all ...either very tolerant or totally lethargic, I don´t know.

I want to the first Celly, and it was wonderful. Tha Jam on the last night was spectacular.

The 2002 Celebration put that one to shame, though. The vibe with the fans was excellent. People were always as nice and friendly as could be. Truly much love was felt.

The fact that we all had a common interest and could chat about our likes and dislikes of Prince generality by just engaging the nearest stranger, made it a great experience in itself. This is all just out in Paisley's parking lot, pre-show.

The shows had the same vibe throughout the audience. There may have been some sluggishness from standing out in the sun for so many hours, several days in a row, but when the opening chords kicked in, people were on their feet again.

Prince did a by-the-numbers ONA set the first night, but (except for another ONA set) he hit us with some experimental sets and song re-workings for the rest of the week. There were so many high points that week, I can't begin to list them.

I don't think that Prince could ever outdo 2002. But one never knows...

Interesting perspective. I guess that I can only base my opinions on my observations from driving around and accross the US, Jamaica and Mexico. I've never been to Germany, though I really want to one day.
