The Camile Sessions

As we now know, Prince has served many different music genres during his career, but one of my utmost favorite side of Prince is his funk side most definitely. Now when you go back and look at the forefathers of funk, you have James Brown, George Clinton and Sly Stone, it's very rare that you ever hear Prince mention with the above, but 2day I'm going to place Prince apart of that music history... (pause)... I got three words... The Camille Sessions. This is dignified funk, purple funk that is, in it's greatest.

I just came across the Camille sessions, not to long ago and I was like omg... where have you been all my life ? The Camille Sessions is like ... The Blueprint 4 Andre300's the love below. I was thinking' Andre3000 must've came across this one day and fall in love with it like it did lol. If you ever come across it though, don't look at it as a album. It's more like a Demo 4 Sign O' the times, cuz it's like this.

I just learned this fact so check it out ..

Y'all remember the song Love or Money ? Well apparently, that was the first time Prince came up with the ideal 2 speed his voice up and when you look at the credits of the single , it's credited to Camille instead of Prince... so really Love Or Money was the birth of the Camille voice and Prince continued to do other songs, using this unique method of producing & mixing. Some of those songs include

Feel U Up, Shockadelica, If I was your girlfriend, Housequake etc. As you can see Camille was alive during the late 80's when prince was at his best with coming up with the party tunes.

Like I said once b4, the camile sessions is like a demo 4 the Sign O' the times. Here's the tracklist if ur interested.

Rebirth of the Flesh a.k.a. Sooly-a-colia a.k.a. New Funky Cool
Housequake
Strange Relationship
Feel U Up
Shockadelica
Good Love
If I was Your Girlfriend
Rockhard In A Funky Place

From what I hear, some of these songs date back as early as the early 80's 4 instants...Feel U up was written back in 83' and Strange relationships, was originally written sometime in 85'. I be thinking where does Prince find the time to write all these bad ass songs ? The man must never sleep... well you know back then when all u ever heard was Prince on the radio(man I miss those days).

music

jamming to "rebirth" right now. the camille album was one
of the best albums he ever recorded.

it's the tightest, nasties, funkiest, sickest piece of wax
he ever compiled.

Shame it was cut up in the end.

I don't know if Erotic City counts,Cuz Prince is mostly singing in a deep voice and when you read the credits, it's credited to Prince not camile.Prince probably had the ideal all along, but I don't think it was until the mid 80's he came up with the Camile legacy.

(curosity of the DMSR page)

Ahem ...

The plan for Camille's release was similar to the one for the Black Album: take a bunch of funky tracks, release them without identifying them as "Prince" songs, and see what the public makes of it. The album contained a number of tunes that have gone on to be fan's favorites, all distinguished by the speeded-up voice Prince started experimenting with on Love or Money. The album was credited to "Camille," 100 test pressings were created, and it was given a catalog number and release date (January 1987).

I'm learning y'all so bare with me lol

The Camille sessions have not only created some of the best songs he's ever made (I mean ‘If I was Your Girlfriend’ and ‘Rebirth of the flesh’ are master pieces alone, not to mention all the other funky tracks) but is all so bled into other great pieces of work. If Prince never made the Camille album I doubt we’d have tracks like Party man, Sex, Scarlet Pussy, La La La He He Hee, and The black album.

A tracklist was compiled
which DigitalLisa posted above but it never got released.

All of the songs are available elsewhere though,
(except for 'Rebirth Of The Flesh' of course.)

Housequake, Strange Relationship, and If I Was Your Girlfriend all turned up on 'Sign 'O' The Times'.

Rockhard In A Funky Place got placed on 'The Black Album'.

Feel U Up and Shockadelica are both B-Sides.

and Good Love is on 'Crystal Ball'.

What a great album except 4 "good love" , sorry I don't like this song.
Thank u Boris 4 all ur explanations...

last week i was watching this movie with michael j. fox and kiefer sutherland from around 85/86 and i said to myself "from where do i know this movie? the title sounds so familiar?" all of a sudden, in this club, the dj starts to play 'good love' and i'm like "oh yeah! how could i forget?" 'good love' is featured on the movie's soundtrack.

i'm not a fan of this song either. only near the end does it get interesting imo. it's the only song on the 'camille' album i'm not that fond of. and 'shockadelica' too; the edit was just perfect, where the extended version goes on a bit too long to keep it interesting. again imo.
