A Remembrance of Mr and Mrs O)+> (longish)

For those who missed it, I found some Old info about the day Mr and Mrs O+> got hitched. Every time I read this I get all tingly inside. It such ashame their love had 2 end in such the tragic way it did, but I guess in like the same way you read a Shakespeare’s story, the greatest romances ends in the most tragic ways. Strange but True. Maybe Prince & Mayte will meet each other sometime in another life. Until then I hope you guys enjoy this.

MINNEAPOLIS - Feb. 16, 1996

"Inspired by his love and complete adoration for his wife, The Artist Formerly
Known As Prince composed a song entitled, 'Friend, Lover, Sister, Mother/Wife.'
The lyrics of love were unveiled to bride Mayte for the first time, as her groom escorted her onto the dance floor for their first dance as man and wife. This
song can not be released to the public because of contractual restrictions
between Warner Bros. Records and The Artist Formerly Known As Prince.

In one of the most anticipated weddings this year, The Artist Formerly Known
As Prince married fiance Mayte Jannell Garcia, at the Park Avenue United
Methodist Church, Minneapolis, Wednesday, Feb. 14, 1996, at 3:00 p.m. .
The ceremony was officiated by Reverend Keith Johnson. The private ceremony
was attended by a small group of family members. The bride's mother, Mrs. Nelle Garcia, preceded seven flower girls down the aisle. Long-time friend of The
Artist Formerly Known As Prince, Kirk Johnson, served as the best man and the bride's sister, Janice Garcia, served as the maid of honor. The bride was escorted down the aisle by her father, Ret. Major John Garcia. The couple was pronounced
man and wife at approximately 3:42 p.m. . The bride will retain her maiden name, Garcia, followed by the symbol for The Artist Formerly Known As Prince
(the artist's new name).

'Friend, Lover, Sister, Mother/Wife,' was not the first song composed by The
Artist Formerly Known As Prince for Mayte. The symphony, Kamasutra, written
by The Artist Formerly Known As Prince, expressly for his then fiancee and performed by the NPG Orchestra, played as the guests were welcomed into the ceremony. Here's what the Reuters news service carried on the wedding

The entertainer and his Puerto Rican bride, the former Mayte Garcia, left the
church under a canopy that stretched from the church door to their waiting
white limousine, shielding them from a crowd of 200 fans and 75 members
of the news media waiting on the street.

After the couple left a member of the wedding party opened the door of a cage
placed on the church lawn releasing a flock of doves into the sub-freezing air.

Members of the Park Avenue United Methodist Church said the mid-afternoon
ceremony was conducted by the Rev. Keith Johnson, a long-time acquaintance
of the entertainer who grew up and
went to high school in the south side Minneapolis neighborhood near the church.

The rock musician had announced on Jan. 31 that he would marry fiance Garcia,
a belly dancer, singer and songwriter.

That announcement said the wedding would take place in Paris. But published
reports indicated the couple would not have been able to estblish residency
in France long enough to make the Valentine's Day date they had set.

The wedding began at 3 p.m. local time, police and church sources said. The
couple left the church about 35 minutes later.

The rock musician, who maintains a home and studio in the Minneapolis area,
arrived at the church by a back door and disappeared inside as an aides held
up a sheet to hide him from the curious.

As the wedding unfolded the
page was carring only an abstract drawing in
shades of red showing two fists both manacled and unchained, and the symbol
he has adopted as
his name.

Published reports said the entertainer had agreed to pay the city of Minneapolis
$3,000 to offset the cost of additional police protection at the ceremony.
The curious and media were kept some distance from the church door.

One published report had quoted Garcia as saying that she would wear a necklace bearing her new husband's symbol so that when the vows were recited
she would point to the symbol and to her fiance instead of uttering a name at
the ``I do take --- for my husband'' part of the ceremony.
