Prince & Sly

What would it sound like, why didn't it ever happen? Was Larry just sloppy seconds?

Because Sly doesn't want to hook up with anybody, or release music of his own, for that matter.

Review of Johnson's Shockadelica album: "Although Prince's influence is still evident on Shockadelica (check "A Better Way"), Johnson's obvious talent and stylistic dexterity diminishes the significance of such comparisons. The accomplishment of leading a ten-piece band (seven instrumentalists and two female vocalists) and ending up with clear, well-organized sound is impressive in and of itself. The LP features a funky duet with Sly Stone ("Crazay") and a diverse, appealing set of danceable songs with a surprising ending: Johnson sings a message of hope on the touching "Black in America," accompanied only by acoustic guitars, synthetic strings and a small chorus."

"Stone appeared on Jesse Johnson's 1986 R&B hit "Crazay." The following year, he dueted with Martha Davis on "Love & Affection" for the Soul Man soundtrack; he also he recorded "Eek-a-Bo-Static," a single that didn't chart. Stone was arrested and imprisoned for cocaine possession by the end of 1987, and he was never able to recover from the final arrest. Stone continued to battle his addiction, with varying degrees of success. By his 1993 induction to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, he had disappeared from public view. Following his appearance at the induction ceremony, he was found living in a sheltered-housing complex. Avenue Records gave Stone a recording contract in 1995, but nothing would be recorded. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide"

Picture of the "Crazay" single with Sly on the back cover:

The 12" version features Sly and Jesse laughing and joking around with each other.

"Sly's concert appearances became extremely erratic and eventually he was busted for coke. Eighties collaborations with funkateers such as George Clinton and Jesse Johnson failed to ignite a comeback for the undeniably brilliant musician. by S.L. Duff"

Sly was fierce. And I think Larry has became a total douchebag, & has basically influenced Prince in total un-artistic ways (effecting Prince's art)but Larry was the shit. There would be no Sly without Larry. Larry was the key ingredient in the "Sly Sound". I think it worked so well cuz sly was so crazy/wild & Larry has always been a candy ass...so it balanced itself out. But now Prince became a candy ass...so we got to candy asses talking there self-rigetious shit, sounding boring, & stale.

nero

p.s. I do like the ONA album & the new song on the site.
The JW stuff makes me crazy though...sick really.

Larry was a wild man when he was with the family stone.Coke and orgies etc, he wasn't always a prim and proper 'godbotherer'.

I totally think Larry was sloppy seconds, I know I'd rather hang out with Paul or John instead of Ringo. I LOVE the video for Crazay, plus it's weird to see Sonny T playing keyboards instead of his funky bass.
Prince may be the purple Yoda, but Wendy & Lisa and Eric Leeds also sit on the Jedi Council.

Harlepolis

I'm fimiliar with his arrest in 87, the ironic thang is I heard that Prince was supposed to hook-up with him for his SOTT album but that arrest bullshit happend and wrecked the whole thang.

Imagine Sly in Sign O' The Times,,,that woul be wild!
