Your partner and Prince

My heart is quite fond of Prince-the-master-of-funk. Also likes the jazzy works (Madhouse, Xpectation and NEWS).
On the other hand, he always leave the room or lower the volume (that's what pissed me most!) when I play other guitar "styles" (rock, pop, rap). disbelief
Besides, he just hate female associated artists. Calls them... names playboy.
But believe me, when I give him my early years funk compilation (Soft & Wet, Sexy Dancer, Let's Work... worship), guy just goes wilder than me. Three times. nutty You got to see him hah! doing his disco moves while dancing to Just As Long As We're Together fro!!!
Any anecdote to share?

I've had some memorable moments with my girl and the Prince album, and this wasn't too long ago. It's a great lazy-summer-afternoon-with-a-breeze-blowing-through-the-window-on-two-naked-lovers album. love2

My wife thinks I listen to way too much Prince, although she likes some of his recent stuff (TRC, Xpectation and One Nite Alone esp). She really has no idea how much I listen to Prince, though - when she's out of the house, I hardly listen to anything else.

She likes his '80s hits, too, but not much else.

Last night, though, I put Parade on while we ate, and at Do U Lie?, she said, "You know what, this is a really good album." Of course, I played it cool, like I hadn't really heard what she said... of course, inside I was like dancing jig

highfive booyah!
About listening way too much, I've been told to seek medical (or better psychiatric) advice. Obsession-compulsion or whatever... it seems. wacky
Well when he's out I usually play something like Come or Exodus, LOUD! And I mean it lol

Exodus!!! Definitely a "spouse is out" LOUD album! Or a "driving along in the summertime with the windows down" LOUD album. Either way, it needs to be LOUD!

My girlfriend was never into Prince, but when we got together she would always take the piss...until I dragged her to the ONA gig...including soundcheck, and aftershow jam.

Since then she's got herself 6 albums and even joined the NPGMC. In fact, we had a big row the other month when I spotted a copy of the black album in a shop and wanted to get it to you know, keep as backup just in case my original got busted, and the girls damn-well demanded that I got it for HER!
jerkoff.....drool BULLSEYE! cool

My wife never got into Prince very much. She has liked a few songs here and there, and she even went to Paisley Park with me back in August of 95 for a performance. Overall, though, I don't think she really cares for him or his music. So, the only time I listen to P's music is when she's not around, and it works most of the time since we work different shifts. smile

Well, 5 years in and my partner and I are still making "mix CDs for each other".

I've done him every album from 1978-1992, he's heard all the other stuff, in fact he's heard EVERYTHING right upto NEWS, from the most obscure out-take to the most floptastic related artist album track.

He digs the released stuff from 1980-1989, that's about it.

Although, because of my love of Sheila E, he does have a thang for her stuff too biggrin

My sweetie was rather fond of Prince before we got together. Yet, like most; post Warner Bros., she kinda lost track of him. When she met me, she was fascinated (musically) by TRC, and everything else Prince has put out since. Ofcourse I have alot to do with her enjoying Xpectation, and NEWS.

In the same way, she's a huge DMX fan. I have a new respect for DMX now, probably the 'realist' (no bullshit, bling-bling) commercial (though that will change soon) rappers out.

I met my husband 10 years ago, but the Prince thing hasn't really become an issue until recently. A big problem is that I am financially dependent on him and going to 2 Prince concerts with VIP tickets etc. has put a real strain on our budget. Now he keeps telling me there better not be anything more I'm planning to buy.
He comes home from work at night and I'm either watching the DVDs, listening to boots or on the Org. He (quite rightly) thinks I don't do anything else! I'm stuck at home with 2 kids, so I put on some Prince and they dance. While they sleep I go on the Org most days.
I find myself holding back things I would love to tell him about Prince because I don't want him to think it's all I think about, (although it is). The problem is more in my mind than in actuality.

My husband likes Prince too and asks me when he gets home everyday "so whats news on the Org today?" and loves to listen to anything I want to play him. Last night HE suggested we watch the Oprah special together, and during Prince's performance he said "this guy is just impeccable, isn't he!"

Thanks for your reply, charlottegelin. Like I said in a previous thread, I've spent way too much money collecting stuff and travelling across Europe to go to concerts. The budget issue I'm quite familiar with lol
The kids part made laugh too. Now I shouldn't go into these personal details (org banning alert cop), but when I change my two-year old's nappy, he usually starts to waddle and sing "Pass the Peas". Translation: Pampers. omg

Last night my boyfriend and I were watching a movie and decided to put it on pause and step outside for a cigarette. I left the door open and popped "Reflection" into the player, cuz goddamn I love me that song. ;0

My boyfriend heard it playing and said, "Is that porno? Are we missing the porno?"

wink

Without partner at present. But I do have a somewhat related ancedote...

A few years ago I discovered that a guy I worked with had an obsession with Prince far superior to mine. Before then I had never actually met another Prince fan... EVER, so it was huge. One morning I walked in to work and there was a neat little stack of 3 burnt Crystal Ball CD's, complete with ribbon. smile

Needless to say I fell madly in love despite the fact that he had a girlfriend who also worked in the same office, and we had a passionate affair in unlikely locations like the back of his car and the server room etc... lol. She found out, inevitably, and the whole thing was stupid and ended very badly... he practically has a restraining order on me!

But now whenever I listen to the various Prince CD's he supplied me with, I unfortunately think of him and how attracted I was to him. I will never know whether it was because he reminded me so much of Prince or whether we truly would have made a good couple. *shrug*

My wife got me aquainted with P's music back in high school about '81. She had all of the albums and associate records. I had to have all of the 12" remixes. The 80's were the heyday of extended dance versions.

It's cool that she's a fan, because she understands and encourages my need to consume Prince product. She's at all the concerts with me, and has even gone to some very choice shows without my ass (First Avenue '87)... damn you, shitty graveyard shift factory job!

My wife hasn't bought a Prince record in years, though. She knows I will.
