Why do I still love Purple Rain?

I watch the DVD at home and I actually still enjoy it as much as I did when I saw it in the movies almost 20 years ago

Because it's the best rock movie ever made. Period.

Yes, that includes The Wall, and Tommy...

John Hughes could have directed Purple Rain. Molly Ringwold could have played Apples.

I recall feeling as if Purple Rain transcended so many of those movies - if for nothng else than the superior music and drama. Clarence Williams III (who should have been somehwere in one of those Matrix films) alone gives it more weight than any John Hughes film.

Clay W's a badass. I think that half the production costs were spent signing him.

Because it lets you know just a little bit of how fuckin cool Prince really is and can be when he cuts loose.

I'll never forget the opening chords to Lets Go Crazy.
I get all tingly inside everytime I hear that.

I think we all still love it 'cos of how it makes us feel, sorta like when we first saw it. I remember the first time I saw it at the cinema I leapt up outta my seat yelling "don't hit him" during the fight with his dad bit. Then laughing myself silly with the "what's the password" follow up when Jerome siddles up to Morris at First Avenue and says "what!" and the worst acting in a movie ever from Apples with "you think you scared me...you didn't" and then shock horror the love scene noticing the fingers slide into the panties!!!
In the distance a light shines and I know it is mine. Someday I will touch it because it calls me. It says cross the line, cross the line. I know everything is not always what it seems, so I pinch myself daily just in case it's a dream

I doubt most people enjoy sitting through Purple Rain, but if you are a big Prince fan, it is still a great time. The music is great, the performance scenes are great...the humor is a little dopey, but it is very satisfying because we love Prince and his cohorts.

And I never get tired of seeing Apollonia flop out of that top near Lake Minnetonka...DAMN!

Ummm I beg to differ. The worst line acting-wise has got to be:

[sullen look downwards]"It's all I dream about. [pause] And you... what do YOU dream about? "

There really is no way to do this line justice in print... ya gotta hear Apples' delivery!
