New Orleans '81...good shit!

i've pretty much been on a controversy-era kick as of late...i dunno how many times i've watched my houston '81 tape this past month, it's gonna wind up about as worn out as my copy of ritz '81 in a minute. lol anyway, i got another goodie in the mail today courtesy of a kind-hearted soul here on the org (yay! thanx,'nana-dahling!!! yay!)--i've got new orleans '81 on cd now.

it's been on damn near non-stop today, save for when i get the urge to play my new kool and the gang compilation cd ("chocolate buttermilk" drooling). this boot's the shit-bomb-dookie, and it's interestin as well: p did "annie christian" on this one, which was cool...and the performance of "dirty mind" on here has me crackin the hell up, man...

do you think i'm nasty?...well, i am! headbang

This was my first boot.
Its called "Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad"
I think this is an excellent show and "Head" is just amazing. The "guitar orgasms" and all that stuff.
I love the bit in "WYWTMSB" when they go, "Why you wanna treat me so bad...Bitch!!!"
Great show.

New Orleans is cool ...
but there are three Controversy-boots that are superior:

1 You Belong To Prince (Houston 9 December 1981)
mainly due to the guitar-jam on "Head", "the second coming" and "private joy"
2 Moonlight disc 1 (Bloomington 27 February 1982)
mainly due to "Annie Christian" and "Party Up"
3 Dance To The Beat (8 March 1982 First Avenue)
Almost all tracks on this one are the best performances of that particular song:
Bambi: Utter cool, a real ROCK version
All The Critics Love U In New York: far superior to the released version, Dez goes nuts on this one!
When U Were Mine: with a cool different bass-loop
Sexy Dancer: a fierce one
Still Waiting: very long
Head: with the guitar-jam replacd by a keyboard-solo
Sexuality: with great audience-participation
Dance 2 The Beat: great fun
The Stick: the coolest Time performance
Party Up: the best one, with Morris on drums

And, what's really special, Prince acts real cool on this one. The things he says almost seems normal. This is the only concert where I get the feeling that Prince is just a normal guy!

On that Houston´81 video the show opens up with
that gospel-accapella The 2'nd coming
& it gives me the chills.
How I wish 2 have been in the audience then.
Prince´s vocal performance at the best.

... "the second coming" is just a tape playing ... so you have nearly the same experience at home ... indeed, a good experience

That was the first concert tape I ever heard by Prince..way back in 1985...what a way to start. And it is still one of my all-time favorites. smile

The Saginaw and Columbia Controversy tour gigs are the best quality out there. Those Houston and New Orleans gigs kick ass! I was just playing Houston yesterday ironically!

Too bad ... most likely your version is sped up too ... and "Bambi" is brilliant on this show.
The quality on "Dance 2 The Beat" is excellent for an audience-recording.
