There's absolutely nothing wrong with this song. It's one of Prince's best love songs, IMO. His performance in the SOTT movie was great too. Reminded me of one of those classic soul performances.

Its one of my favourite songs on the album.

Personally, I skip past: "It"; "U Got The Look" and "The Cross".

I agree. It's a very sexy song; would much rather listen to that than some others on the album.

It's a good song. I think sometimes Prince tries to prove he can make generic music, then he gets freaky again. The live version really showcases his voice.

just have to add my bote for this soneg - I love it too. Always skip U Got The Look, easily probably in my top 10 or never listen to songs.
In the distance a light shines and I know it is mine. Someday I will touch it because it calls me. It says cross the line, cross the line. I know everything is not always what it seems, so I pinch myself daily just in case it's a dream

A friend of mine (who has never been a fan really) once said that the only thing that saves the song are the horns.

I guess I agree with him.

The melody line is weak and the climax of the song is built too much with the screaming, instead with some well written musical development (vide: Raspberry Beret - so simple yet so effective!)

Slow Love is beautiful. It's probably one of his ten best ballads. It used to be in my top five Prince songs ever. Why?

Prince never sounded more retro (at least in the 80s). We had never heard his take on Philly soul/Motown which may not be the best way to describe it, but that's what comes to my mind. The string arrangement and vocal harmonies are gorgeous. His own vocal performance is also uniquely beautiful. I've never heard him sing quite like that since.
The added touches of Eric Leeds' saxophone are nice too. The melody is somewhat simple, but effective and charming.

I don't understand the criticism or the reasoning for that criticism behind this song. Sign of the Times would be a lesser album without it.

I'm the one saying that "Slow Love" is Prince's first song I really don't like.
It's hard to explain why you love one song and hate another .. but this one is bad!

Indeed ... before SOTT I adored everything the man has done. This one made me realise he isn't the god of music. And a few years later I realised it's possible to spoil it all.

Sounds like Prince tries to prove that he can do this too. Later he tries to prove he can play raggea, rock or even symphonic rock ... All those attempts suck hard.
I wish he stayed with the Funk / Rock / Soul combination.

Sheesh..well if this is bad what do u call most of the inane 90's material Slow Love bad? are u sure?

A fantastic song live and on vinyl.

This is definitely my least favorite song from SOTT, and it would have been a stronger album if it had been left off...lord knows he had much stronger bedroom ballads languishing in the vaults at the time. As his weaker stuff goes, however, it's not that bad - over the years, I've come to tolerate it - but there's a reason you've barely ever heard it played live since the SOTT tour...
The same can be said of other songs that don't make ure case stronger.
