What's the problem with "Slow Love"? okay, I've been reading reviews of SOTT and have noticed that this song isn't too popular, not even here at the org, why???
I even heard someone say it's the worst song on the album, surely that person forgot about "hot thing"? why don't y'all like this one? I find it much more listenable than "adore", but that's a whole different story... [This message was edited Tue Nov 11 22:18:22 PST 2003 by lovebizzare] ~KiKi

There's something about "Slow Love" that is so cliche, pretentious in the worst possible sense of the word, boring, and icky. It's really not THAT bad, but it is in comparison to the rest of Prince's catalogue. I was watching the SOTT concert video yesterday, and I had to forward "Slow Love".

It doesnt really appeal much until the strings come in towards the end.. If it wasnt for that, I would skip over every time... during the tours at that era, he sand it beautifully

I love it esp. th e SOTT movie version he does. On the album u can faintly here the doo-wop ishness of it with th e tink tink of keys etc...Ive loved it from the git go and the horns are nice on it as well. Ive always read about people hating it as well.A great vocal as well. Its so uunderrated. Poor poor Slow Love... It had me at "Young" "Climb in my fur."

I'm the one saying that "Slow Love" is Prince's first song I really don't like.
It's hard to explain why you love one song and hate another .. but this one is bad! Indeed ... before SOTT I adored everything the man has done. This one made me realise he isn't the god of music. And a few years later I realised it's possible to spoil it all. Sounds like Prince tries to prove that he can do this too. Later he tries to prove he can play raggea, rock or even symphonic rock ... All those attempts suck hard. I wish he stayed with the Funk / Rock / Soul combination.

This is definitely my least favorite song from SOTT, and it would have been a stronger album if it had been left off...lord knows he had much stronger bedroom ballads languishing in the vaults at the time. As his weaker stuff goes, however, it's not that bad - over the years, I've come to tolerate it - but there's a reason you've barely ever heard it played live since the SOTT tour...

Its one of my favourite songs on the album.
Personally, I skip past: "It"; "U Got The Look" and "The Cross".

HOT THING is one of my favourites. the bad thing about SLOW LOVE for me is the arrangement. that is why live the song is not that bad, especially with some screams from da man. yes SIR!

'Slow Love' has always been one of my fave tracks from 'SOTT',
and thats saying something considering how many quality songs are on there.

I LOVE IT
IT REMINDS ME OF "TRY ME" OF JAMES BROWN...

It's the only track on the album I always skip, for me it completely ruins the flow of the album.
Might not be so bad if it was a decent ballad, but I find it too sickly sweet. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm a sucker for a major chord

Should have been a b-side, along with Its Gonna be a beautiful night. They are the weak spots on a great album
Its grown on my over the years, but I still skip it. I think the verses are simply poor. The way he moves from normal voice to falsetto in a single line simply does not work, it sounds a mess. He should have sung it in one or the other. You know what I mean... "Young is the NIGHT!!!" "It feels so RIGHT"!!" Screech! .

The original version with Clare Fischer's full string arrangement is just beautiful.
I like the released version, but I love the original SO much more... [This message was edited Wed Nov 12 6:25:55 PST 2003 by bananacologne]

I like this song. In fact, I love it! There isn't one song on SOTT that I don't like.

This and Adore were my two songs played at my wedding back in 1990. "

at first i couldn't get past the melody of the verse. the music is brilliant especially the arrangement by claire is flawless. if it were an instrumental track this would qualify as one of his best ever!

Just a little bit to tacky I guess. And the fact that there's nothing outstandingly original and/or moving about it doesn't help either. A little bit too "look how slick and classy my ballad is" for me... There are no kings on this Earth, only Princes

I liked 'Slow Love' maybe the first two or three times I heard it and then it did nothing for me. That 'It' and 'Hot Thing' made Side Two of SOTT (I'm giving album sides and showing my age by doing so) some of the biggest filler he's ever released. If you look at those five songs there's not a killer track amongst them, although I do enjoy 'Forever In My Life'.
But each of the other sides contains a Prince classic. In some cases more than one.

If you manage to restrain yourself and not his the skip
button the first 20 seconds, the song gets better with every passing minute. I never cared too much for it and always skipped it until I was on the loo once with Sign on and I had no hope of skipping, since I was just in the middle of... well, I don't have to draw a picture here, do I. But whilst the soft seven-layer sheets whiped my toosh I said to myself "Hey bugger me, this song is in fact kinda cool". and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

i like slow love, especially the live versions!
"shut the door babeh who-ho-hoo..." and Eric Leeds spicing things up, builts up to a climax (eargasm, orgasm) when u hear this live. it's such a horny song, all songs should sound like this really.
