I heard somewhere that all you had to do to get a hollywood star was to be nominated by a friend and stump up the cash for the ceremony and everything.

Hardly a great honour really, like giving yourself a pat on the back.

Found this on a comedy website - I doubt the statistics true but the irony in the sentiment is spot on.

"Sadly though, there is a dark side to accepting the honour of one of the 20 stars handed out every year. Of the 2,207 stars handed out so far, 212 of those thus honoured have comitted suicide shortly afterwards.

It is said that once the reality of having your name put into a bit of concrete in the most artificial city of the world sinks in, many are unable to continue living their lives because of the knowledge that they had reached their pinnacle."

These shitty stars are paid out of the artist his/her own pocket and not given out because they "deserve" it, anyone can get a star on there if the money's provided...

Now that is so deep...However, I think I'm just appalled that someone like BS would even get a mention that she "deserves" a star on the walk...I mean, my God, Prince has been performing longer than BS has even been alive!

Controversy Magazine ran a campaign to get Prince a star many years back but not enough people were prepared to stump up the cash

Something along the lines of "let the little git buy his own" biggrin

It's paid on the artist's behalf. Usually by money funnelled to their agent. It's the agent job to make it appear it's coming from the fanbase. Either Prince had no idea how this worked or just didnt'care. My suspicions are a mixture of both. Once he found out he had to pay, he said ""Fuck that!"

All awards are a pat on the back for the industry/artist themselves. They are PR machines. Drones then go out and bu y stuff based on these 'prestigious' awards. Every award you can think of is the industry patting itself on the back. Gotta spend money to make money, u know.

The Walk of Fame isn't nearly as prestigous as it once was.

For cryin out loud, Paula Abdul has a star there.
This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

From what I heard it is fans of that person that pay for it. So pony up the cash if you really care!

I remember reading in some magazine years ago that Prince would get a star, then suddenly the name change thing hit and that was the end of that...
