Does When 2R In Love fit better on Black or Lovesexy, and why? Been listening to Lovesexy today.
Though I rate the song as one of his finest ballads , I can't help but think it doesn't fit, musically / lyrically with the rest of the album. Fact is always skip the track when listening to the Black Album. What do you think? What was the man thinking, when he decided to include the song on Lovesexy? I can't remember my baby's voice cuz she ain't talkin' no more

I always skip it on TBA too - I guess that answers the question. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

To me, the song works on both. It's as dark as The Black Album and sweet and romantic as Lovesexy. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

I agree. It feels different on both albums somehow, in the context of the rest of the songs.

Lovesexy!! | |

It fits well on both. though it blends in better with the
Lovesexy tracks. Especially since it segues so beautifully out of the "swwweeet dreamszz" Lovesexy ending. Then "When 2 R In Love" and "I Wish U Heaven" sounds very dreamy indeed. Fits well. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

i like the fact that it doesnt segue on the black album...but i think it works best on lovesexy...

Lovesexy. Just 'cos. | |

It does seem slightly awkward on both albums, but I think it fits a bit better on Lovesexy, as that whole album deals with an interplay between sex, love and God.
NOWHERE else on the Black Album does the concept of sex within the confines of real love -- let alone something divine -- raise its head. [This message was edited Tue Nov 11 10:50:34 PST 2003 by Lammastide] Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

I generally can do without the song altogether, though. I think it's fairly weak. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

With the concept of lovesexy, 2r in love fits.
Of course, it also fits in a sick way on the black album.

Now you people are saying "it fits on TBA in a sick way" I kinda get why it's on there, I always skipped it before.
I always imagined what TBA would be like with Dead On It and When 2 R In Love - replaced with two other house/funk stompers - it could have been Prince's coolest dancefloor album ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

yes ! lovesexy !
no ! black ,w2ril is 2 lightweight and just doesnt fit with that real dark album !

It jars with Black - could possibly be seen as a dream, (or maybe When 2 R In Love IS real life, and the rest of the Black album is a dream?
Whatever, it fits SO much better on LoveseXy - that album is so well tracked!

I like it on LoveSexy much better. I always thought it sounded out of place on TBA. TBA is a very dark album and W2RIL is not a dark song. It's very spiritual alot like LoveSexy... "So strange that no one stayed at the end of the Parade..." - Wendy & Lisa's "Song About" on their 1987 self-titled album.

I love it on the black album ... makes it more X-rated instead of spiritual ...
In fact, the track is both, but I like Prince's X-rated side. On LoveSexy this track seems just another R&B track, with lousy lyrics. On the Black Album it gets the attention it deserves.

I always thought "When 2 R In Love" was sweet but like cold and darker percussively (the tempo too) than the rest of Lovesexy and fit better on Black Album.
It is certainly the best song on Black Album and so logically deserved some sort of proper release in 1988.

When I got the original black bootleg in early 88, I always thought "When 2 R in Love" did not fit on the album. I was suprised he didn't keep it up tempo, particularly as the album was designed as an answer to those who questioned his funk.
I though that should have replaced it with something like "Rebirth Of the Flesh", or "Fill U Up". Even a reworked "Witness" would have fitted better. .

I am currently listening to it on TBA and can say it fits in fine here as well as on Lovesexy.
... Bob George just started...love this.

It always pisses me off on the Black Album because I want to hear "I Wish U Heaven" after it. The Normal Whores Club
