The "Come" LP revisited

I was listening to the LP the other day and have come to the conclusion that this is a very underrated LP

Come perhaps the weakest of the LP mostly because sometimes (4 Me) it seems like Prince just doesn't know when to stop. The Bass in the jam is so cool though and lyrics are just fuckin nasty:
In your eyes (Here's a reason why)
Like a strawberry (Come), chocolate
Fender jazz, mashed potato, fuzztone (Come)
All over your thighs

Dark ok shit this is the song I skip the most mostly to get to the faster jams but with lyris like Inside lookin' out my window
I don't see nothin' but rain
Sun up in the sky just a shinin' (just a shinin')
Still I'm lost in my shadow of pain
I can see why many like this song. It's depression is as captivating as seeing Alysa Milano in a thong and no top bent over a baby grande piano.

Letitgo The only high radio played song of the LP that i remember this is such a great jam with some kick ass guitar licking I'm suprised that it did not do any better on the POP charts as it did. Another awesome Bass line thru out the song with riveting ass lyrics that probably gave some bad karma to radio stations: 4teen years and tears I've longed 2 sing my song
But a horse couldn't drag your ass 2 put me on
But now I've got an army and we're three million strong
This song will ring in your ears when we are gone

Loose! What genre does this fall under? Techno? U just gotta get up and move when you hear this one. Great beats and even better (I think) after it was done as "Get Loose" on "Crystal Ball"

Orgasm What can I say? Only Prince

Papa This was insightful into what Prince's childhood may have been like. It is a theme we have seen before. Whether he was reflecting on his entire childhood or one instance is a mystery to me, but the song is HOT. The guitar at the end is one of my favorite guitar engagements by the man in my extensive catalogue.

Pheromone Her eyes are closed but there's no penetration
He just makes her point the pistol 2 his nose
While he masturbates and now I see a tear
Heading down towards her smile
What happens next it all depends upon your style

(Oh, this is crazy baby)

Race Fuck this song

Solo Beautiful vocals and mood, convincing tale of how much range the little man has.

Space Saved it for last because it is for some reason my favorite. Perhaps it is because of it simplicity or maybe because of the "acoustic version" I don't know. It was this song that caused me to write this nite my thoughts on an other wise great Lp that has been very rarely discussed here at the forum.

I've always liked this album. Not one of his best...for sure...but it's a gem nonetheless.

I would've loved for him to have released Pheromone.

Anxiety

Over the past two or three years, this has been one of my most played Prince albums. Before that, I never gave it the time of day. If you haven't listened to it in a long time, give it another chance...you might be surprised.

When COME was released I was very disappointed but this album is a grower and I do like it (though not one of his best for sure).

Agree with a lot of your review BUT for me Dark is the best song on the album and for some reason I just don't like Space (my friends love it). It just doesn't *feel* like Prince to me?
'I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally. He's with our son now.' Mayte 21st April 2016 = the saddest quote I have ever read! RIP Prince and thanks for everything.

The Come album wouldn't be one of my favourites. I haven't been able to listen to it all the way through. I'll give it another go and get back to you.

Pheromone... oooh... I loved this track from the second the snare boomed through my speakers the first time... this song pumps me up everytime I hear it, my favorite part being the afforementioned bridge :

Her eyes are closed but there's no penetration
He just makes her point the pistol 2 his nose
While he masturbates and now I see a tear
Heading down towards her smile

love that!

Why does everyone keep saying this album is "underrated"? It's not underrated,it really is crap lol

Yes,there are a few good songs, but as an album,it's nothing to write home about.Come on guys,we all know Prince can do better than this.

Gotta agree with Davideye on this one. OK its got some good songs on there...Space, Come, Dark, Pheremone, but as an album its a nothing. So inconsequential in his back catalogue that i barely even consider it a proper album.

I guess at the time it was released everyone was expecting more The Most Beautiful Girl In The World type songs, and that is why the Come album sucks even more. After that single prince had a genuine chance to bring lost fans back, and create new fans, which he could've done if warners had permitted the release of the gold experience.

Come went to number one in england off the back of that single, but stayed in the charts for only a few weeks. People bought it, realisednit was shit, and most probably never bought another prince record again.

Not a good album, but not a terribly bad album, just the wrong album at the wrong time.

It reminds me of time release cold medication...it might not do much when you first gulp it down, but given time it does its job.

The Come album is one of my favorite Prince albums, period. I just loved this when it was released. Unfortunately, he elected to follow this up with The Gold Experience and Emancipation, which almost caused me to stop buying his releases entirely...

oooKAY...

as for my feelings on "race" to me it is just to fast, I mean the tempo. Maybe he wanted to be that way because of something as simple as it's name but it is just not mu favorite. But u know I felt the same way about this song from the B-side of "BatDance" called "200 Baloons" and then I began to love it, weird huh?
