One of his best. I never get bored of listening to this. I love how it sounds like an extended jam was tacked onto the end of a two minute song with sticky tape.

p.s. I paid £17.00 for the Japanese import 3" CD single in a longbox and I didn't even have a CD player at the time!
Does everybody remember when CD players cost like £300.00???

I think Alphabet St is the best track on the album, and possibly princes best single (a tie with Theives).
I find that it is often overlooked as we have all heard it so much. We prefer to discover lesser heard gems. Alphabet St is unique. In use of instruments, overall sound, structure and short length (Single edit). It torn the rule book up for singles. It was full of colour. I've noticed that songs often top the org polls, once prince has re-introduced them to the public, in concert. Joy in repetition is a great example. A great track, but it never got high in our polls until it was revived from 97 onwards. Annastasia is another. Never got in top 10s until after the 2000 shows. Other great examples of "re-discovering" are Shes Always In My Hair and "Gotta Broken Heart Again". Alphabet St simple suffers from over exposure. If it had not been a single, and sung live so many times, it would probably top one of our polls. .

What can I say... it was the song that introduced me in the musical world of P. I loved it back in 1988 and I still love it today.
Simply a classic! | |

It's my favorite track on Lovesxy and one of my all-time favorite videos. I remember the spring of 1988 when this song was the jam. I rememer being with my babysitter and some of her friends in Brooklyn, NY. One of them had the Lovesexy album and cranked up "Alphabet St". Everyone was dancing to it. It was fun.
But then, I wanted to listen to the rest of the album. I never got to that day. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

I remember this video being the first to ever be played in full on a late night music show in England. Can't remember the name, but they had celeb guests in to vote on new releases, They pressed a buzzer to stop the song/vid, and no one buzzed it!
Still love this track, even the rather naff rap by Cat, cos the lyrics are so much fun. The horns still give me a lift. Ace song from an ace album. A pity he ruined it by making it all one track. I only tracked it myself a few months ago, and have listened to it more since then than in the previous 10 years. G All orgnotes and emails requesting trades or how to acquire bootleggage will be ignored. - The ThreadKiller -
