r u 2 cool?

Funny,I was thinking about my concert experiences.I have seen all sorts of things at concerts and ,especially,Prince's concerts.It's,weird,though.You see people who are totally devoted and dress like him or in some way to suggest that they belong to him .But you also see like, guys who are so into Prince and that's almost all they listen to,but when in the show, when Prince raises the lights and asks for a hand clap or a "raise the roof" or anything participatory they are like logs or have a look like "puh-leeeze".You know if they were free of the thought that they might look like a damn fan then they would be doing the worm naked in the aisles.

Crazy.A rare chance to be in the same room with a musical great and you shelled out 65 bones and you're too damned cool. And most of your free time at home is spent in front of your mirror lipsynching and air guitaring to Cream or some such or wishing you were T.C Ellis.

You do realize that this makes you the uncoolest of cools.right? You need to loosen up and live a little. You'll be old and unable to move soon enough.Don't cut yourself short. If you get caught masturbating just say,So?!I was just thinking about Aunt Gertrude in her knee-high nylons or I was thinking about Uncle Albert's sexy phlegm cough!"

Sorry! The point is that being cool is inner peace and comfort. It's not trying to be what you aren't and it's not not allowing yourself to enjoy yourself.

So,now go and see Prince as soona s possible and really let loose.Make a fool of yourself. And if someone yells at you to sit down or something tell them to just shut up because this is not just a concert ,it's a dance.(isn't that a bootleg title?)Tell them they aren't cool because you heard it from Rockwilder. They'll realize their folly and start nude pop locking.

So you're saying screaming and shouting with tears running down your face as your upheld lighter scorches the faces of people around you as you sway to Purple Rain.. is cool?

Cool is toning it down a bit out of respect for others, not regressing to kindergarten playground.

hmm

Have you ever considered there are as many ways of approaching an experience like that?

I am the guy in the first ring, glued to fence, listening and looking at all that happens. If something gets to me, I might dance, but I just love to see Prince give his little signs to his band members. Or the scared face of Maceo when he misses a cue.

I am very happy for people that really go bonkers, but often it seems a mass induced madness that I amjust not into. I am the guy that crosses his arms when Prince wants believers to raise their arms. Most people would stand on their head if Prince asked them to, but I rather think aboout things than to mimic the crowd, thank you.

I need to loosen up? Puleeze! rolleyes

woot! That's what I'm talking about! woot!
I hate when I'm at a show and people just sit or stand around only to look at me and act as though its NOT a concert! I mean, sure, at the opera or at a Boston Pops performance, I'll sit and enjoy.

At a Prince concert I'm gonna get funky! Those who didn't should stay at home and watch the video.

I don't know about everyone else but it is not a matter of coolness or lack of that makes me react in different ways. I think my very first Prince concert I stood there like a deer caught in the headlights unable to move, breathe, speak...anything. On other occassions I have worked myself up into such a frenzy that breathing also became difficult, on other occassions it is good to sit back and watch every move and little nuance that is happening on stage between him and the band etc. The subtle signals he uses and the sheer concentration and focus they all have on him.

I don't give a stuff what people around me think. In Brisbane this year I was so far away with the pixies that when A ? of U started I got so caught up in it that I hadn't realised everyone was sitting down until almost the end of the song. Everyone around me was so cool though. Purple Rain always brings on the tears but didn't think it would happen mid way through the gig as I was just so hyped and high that the tears emotion wouldn't surface. WRONG! But not just because of the song this time, I was doing quite well I thought on holding myself together until the guy next to me (a complete stranger) noticed and touched my hand as if to say it's OK and that just opened the floodgates!!
In the distance a light shines and I know it is mine. Someday I will touch it because it calls me. It says cross the line, cross the line. I know everything is not always what it seems, so I pinch myself daily just in case it's a dream

Are you my ex-boyfriend? lol. That sounds like something he would say.

But seriously... I fucking agree 100%! I hate it when people who spend months fantasising about going to a concert then let P down and refuse to participate because they want to look nonchalant. Nobody cares what they look like except themselves.

I took a casual Prince fan friend to see Prince last month, and he just stood there for 2 hours. Luckily I was next to a real fan on the other side because I was jumping up and down didn't want to be alone in my enthusiasm. On the way to the aftershow in the car, my friend was gushing about how unbelievably good he thought the concert had been, and I was very surprised, since I thought he had looked bored. Turns out "deer caught in the headlights" was exactly what he was experiencing, oblivious to all but what was going on on stage.

Oh my god! I had the exact same thing, down to the letter! I was jumping about like a lunatic, but my friend just sat there (he wasn't really a fan, I just took him cuz I didn't want ot go alone) and I thought he was bored out of his skull. Then in the car he was like "fuck, that was incredible, thanks so much for taking me. I have so much respect for Prince now" and I was like "well why the hell didn't you move an inch for the whole show?" and he was like "I was just taking it all in"... lol.

As for the couple sitting on the other side, the woman pointed at the stage where the band equipment was and said "what does NPG stand for?" lol Suffice to say, they weren't exactly hardcore.

Now see..in the states we aren't like that..I hate to say it but even us wild ones are more reserved..and when someone is not reserved we scoff and trip at them. I admit unless its a close club date Ill be chill but when something jammin comes on then Ill rock the funk out like when he did Controversy and Mutiny together etc...but in general I think the American audience doesn't show as much emotion and fervor and hell..appreciation as European and other audiences...it shows in some of t e bootlegs...you can hear it. Like in Empotium...those muthas make the cd...the joy of the audience and you can tell they were fans...I dnt think Prince gets as much from us in the states. He always comes back inspired when abroad and well deserved. We front.

I guess it's not cool to sit down and actually try to appreciate the music being played, you've got to jump up and down like an arse for the whole concert? I guess I'll never be cool then.

We are all different, AsylumU. It is part of the fun. The only thing to remember is to respect the differences. You like vanilla ice-cream, I like strawberry. That does not make my strawberry any better than your vanilla...

you hit it !

that is THE problem

dancers don't respect the non-dancers, by dancing in front of them and totally obstructing their view the entire show.
Screamers who are screaming the entire show IN MY LEFT EAR.

Non-dancers DONT respect the screamers/dancers for that very same reason.

It is a ONE WAY street - nothing more to say.

people can dance their asses off and go as crazy as they want - A LONG AS THEY DON'T OBSTRUCT MY VIEW

people can scream their heads off the entire show AS LONG AS IT DOESN'T AFFECT MY ENJOYMENT OF THE SHOW

but sadly that is NOT the case

The dancing screamer always seems to be right next to you or in front of you and totally oblivious that there is anyone else in the place.

the NON dancer NON screamer can offend nobody, we don't stop people from hearing the show OR from seeing the show.

a ONE WAY street .

get you shit together losers

have some respect.
