Good review, IstenSzek.
I agree that there's a lot more to like on Rave than dislike. In some ways, I think it's one of his most heartfelt albums. I don't really dig the title track, and I think Wherever U Go is pretty cloying and beneath him. But there are a lot of moments that really shine too. I view the whole album as a response to his breakup with Mayte and his healing process. When I went through a breakup, the lyrics of this album took on new meaning for me, like being rejected made me also want to go to a place where I was "understood and adored" and Strange but True became kind of like an empowering anthem. And The Greatest Romance makes more sense to me now that I think of it as a dis rather than any kind of love song.
Not that I know what he was going through; it's just filtered through my own personal response to the music. But since I had such a personal response to this album, I give it a lot of credit.
