Every CD that comes out on general release. DVD's - some but not all. I don't buy CD singles as the only shop that carries a decent range of them is HMV and they have a €5 markup of pure profit on them so I won't buy them.

Not any more, used to collect some bootlegs, not really interested in getting more, I reckon I have all the best ones anyway - except for the occasional concert recording, and there have been enough of those on official release in recent years so no need for me to buy any bootlegs.

Difficult one. Probably it could help record sales. For example, I have some old bootlegs of really dodgy sound quality, if they were to be given official release, proper quality, I'd buy them immediately. Would I buy official releases having heard some bootlegs? I doubt it (based on the quality of those bootlegs) - but then I wouldn't have bootlegs if I didn't already have all the official releases.
Except for concert recordings, I'm not really a fan of bootlegging. Argue it any way you want to, it's still theft.

Not particularly. I have most protege releases (except, oddly enough, The Family). Sheila E and Wendy & Lisa I like alot (especially Eroica), The Time were alright, but the rest mostly suck.

Unfair question! You know it's too difficult to choose one. Okay then, The Truth for album, In All My Dreams for single (I know it's not an official release but it's one of my favourites).

Q9.) What Prince albums/singles do u dislike & why?
Albums :
For You - as his fanfare to the world I thought it was really lame. The (far too short) title track is the only one on it with a spark of originality, the rest is just... blah.
Graffiti Bridge - Too disjointed and I can never regard it as a proper Prince album as about half of it is other people. I always thought it would've been better as a single album with just the Prince tracks on it (even if they were not the best ones, at least it would have made it a Prince album rather than the soundtrack album to the suckiest film ever made).
Symbol - this album is waaay too long and the decent tracks get lost amongst all the crud. And it's another of Prince's "concept" albums. Prince shouldn't try to do concept albums, he just doesn't seem to understand the concept.
TRC - another of Princes failed "concept" albums. I still dislike this album intensly and have yet to manage to listen to it all the way through in one go (although I have listened to all tracks on it quite a few times, it's too samey to listen to in one go, after about 45 minutes of it I'm suicidal). Some of the lyrics are insulting, the rest are lame schoolboy rhymes, the music is just a plodding jazz/funk groove that doesn't change throughout the whole album, the voiceover is annoying, and old, it's been used to death by now, and finally I was disgusted to note that this album, when released, didn't have a parental advisory sticker on it.
NEWS - I actually love this album, great music, but as an offical Prince album it sucks. For one thing, it should never have been marketed as "The New Prince Album", it should have just been released with no fanfare, let the dedicated fans buy it if they want, like the madhouse albums. Secondly, I resent Prince marketing it as New directions in music. New? My arse! It's madhouse revisited and nothing more. Prince does not go in any directions on this album that he hasn't been before.

Singles :
The first single I disliked was Thieves in the Temple, not that I dislike the song, I just think it's one of the weakest songs on the album, and the worst choice for a single. After that I never took much notice of single releases. Has he even released anything off TRC?

All ages, his dirty stuff ain't that dirty. If you're too young, you won't understand it, and if you're old enough to understand it, who am I to stop you listening to it?

I thought it was a brilliant move, once again proving just how original and different he can be. Who else would ever have thought of using an unpronouncable symbol for their name? It caught the public imagination and gave him a huge amount of publicity - far more than WB could have given him, even if they'd wanted to. As for the actual name change, what's in a name? Prince has had tons of different names anyway, one more name change makes no difference - unless he goes for another symbol and we have to call him The Artist Formerly Known By Many Names Including Prince But Who Is Currently Calling Himself This Unpronouncable Little Symbol Here.

Q13.) R u a member of NPG Music Club?, if yes what made u join?, if no why?
No, No, No, never, no way.
1. As Prince's only offical web presence it sucks. Nothing for his fans without first paying for it? I don't think so.
2. I was absolutely LIVID when I read the word 'donation' on the subscribe page. Donation=Charity (and that little fucker is not a charity case, basket case maybe, but not a charity).
3. The subscribe page actually gives you no idea what you can expect to get for your $25. I fail to see how it would entice anyone to join.
4. I emailed the npgmc to ask why there was no free content on the site and why anyone should be expected to pay money with no information on what they'd get for it. Their reply annoyed me so much that if there had ever been a chance that I might join it is gone now.
5. My reply from the npgmc seemed to indicate that if I joined I would be joining a cult with it's own dogma, rather than a club to celebrate the MUSIC of Prince, which is the only thing about him I'm interested in. I have spent enough of my life getting away from religious zealots, I'm not about to become one.
6. I'm just distrustful of people (or online clubs) that ask for money straight away without telling you what you can expect for it, and that subscribe page with it's manky graphics just shouts 'rip-off' to me.
7. I suspected that there would be plently of JW preaching and crap, and not enough real discusion there. It would appear that this is the case, or at least, real discussion gets deleted (and users banned) for expressing opinions.
8. Having read of other peoples experiences with it, even if it's just $25 it still wouldn't be value for money for me :
- I don't do downloads with my standard modem, it takes so long to download music that I prefer to just go out and buy it in the shops.
- I live in Ireland, where he plays every 7-8 years, so the front row tickets won't be much use to me most of the time, besides, who needs front row seats? - He's not that fucking small, I saw him just fine from row 52 last time he played here.
- No interest in meeting him or going to sound check. Well, actually, I wouldn't mind meeting him, but only if he gives up this JW thing; if I met him now I wouldn't be able to help myself - I'd have to try to deprogram him and turn him into a thinking person again. It is the duty of all mankind to think God out of existence.

Yes, of course he would. Yes, I would and do buy every official Prince album release. With a few exceptions, the bootlegs I have are of fairly bad quality, of course I'd replace them with the proper quality stuff.

Well, he said it himself - "My only competition is me in the past". He has no need to compete but can he? Hell, yes. In fact, it is when Prince is competing (well, not necessarily competing but following a genre) that he produces mediocre stuff. I thought much of the Symbol album was an atempt to follow current musical trends and it fails as a Prince album because of that. When he mimics a genre, Prince does it better than most, but he's still not as good as when he ignores what's going on commercially and just does his own thing. That's when he beats the competition hands down.

As much as possible. It took me a while to buy Chaos & Disorder and I still don't own Lovesexy on CD, but other than that, I buy just about everything.

I play it for all of my godchildren. I started listening when I was 6. My cousins exposed me to Prince for the first time. I didn't understand the sexual content until much later on.

In my opinion they are about sex. They are each a great album in their own way and if the content bothers you, you are missing out on some of the most interesting albums of Prince's career. I think the sex is used as a distraction, a challenge to get listeners to focus on the music and not the act around it.

I would buy them, but that isn't saying that that is what he should do. I don't like the Prince released concerts or demos as much as I like the raw bootlegs of the same material. They still sound/feel produced to me. A Prince concert is an amazing event that does not need to be embellished by studio edits, quick cutting camera shots, or graphics. There is nothing better than hearing Prince in all of his genius entertain his fans. Just capture the moment and it would be fantastic.

I hope Prince is at a stage in his life and career where he is comfortable enough about his place in history to make the music he wants to make, regardless of whether its a commercial success or not. His fans have been through a lot with him and there is no reason to think that they will desert him now. And with all due respect, its demeaning to think that Prince needs to compete with today's pop artists. That is something Madonna may feel a need to do, since she is first and foremost a pop-celebrity who happens to make music. But for someone like Prince, just get the band together, invite some of your friends, turn on the microphone and recorder, and jam. I'll be there to listen.

I don;t feel quite so strongly about bootlegs taken from "Live" performances but personally not prepared to line the pockets of these people.[b]

If there weren't leaks, and bootlegs no-one would know if a song was written last week, last year or a decade ago so it would all be "new" material. If live concert footage were released this may increase commercial sales and cause people to buy more albums etc as his shows always throw up suprises from the past and those songs that current or newer fans wouldn't have heard.[b]

I don´t think it helps record sales much, but I don´t think it decreases it either. People who buy bootlegs generally have all the official material already.

Not really. Some of the songs are good, but I wouldn´t go see a whole concert with any of his proteges.

Rave Unto The Joy Fantastic, New Power Soul, most of Emancipation. They completely lack personality and sound like any old sloppy soul/r´n´b crap.

Mostly for adults. Many of the songs are a bit too complex for kids to enjoy them fully.

You mean the sex theme? I don´t mind it, but it can get a bit boring sometimes. Variety is always good, but Prince often gets stuck in the sex and/or religion swamp.

I thought it was funny and interesting. You gotta love a guy who dares to try crazy things like that. It was also a bit silly, though.

I don't really see it helping record sales, but I don't see it having a negative effect either, because the official material is so different. Its not like the piracy of albums which is happening now.

Yes. I have some Time CDs and I really like the Tony Lemans CD. I'm looking forward to a Kip Blackshire CD.

Such a hard ?. I'd say album would be 1999. Single probably Erotic City. If I could choose a second and third album they would be Dirty Mind and Gold Experience respectively.

Well, I used to not like Parade too much. But then I listened to it more and found at least 5 songs which I loved, and therefore don't think so naegatively about it. So, currently I don't really like Xpectation that much, I haven't really been able to get into the instrumental jazzy stuff that much. I really like his vocals and the funky music, so I have not really liked the instrumental route (although I actually sorta like NEWS). I also hardly ever listen to Graffiti Bridge. Oh yea, and I don't like Jughead.

I became a fan during this period so I just viewed him as being kind of weird, but I really liked the look of the symbol. I have always called him Prince. My only negative thoughts about the symbol time is just that when someone finds out you are a fan they always bring that symbol shit up, and I will have to explain that he has changed his name back now. Although it meant sorta losing the symbol as a logo, I was happy when he changed his name back because then I didn't feel weird calling him Prince.

YES! I love the music. Although there may be some let downs, I usually forget that I have spent the money anyways, and it would have gone towards something else anyways, so its ok. Overall I'm satisfied. Even when I'm feeling cheated I just have to sit back and think about everything I've received and remind myself I made the right decision.

I would buy them, of course! And yes it would get him a lot of money. Assuming these were of a much higher quality than the bootlegs, he would make lots of money.

I don't think that he should compete against the music of today. It is so different from what he does, and I don't think that a lot of people really care about him. Personally I only receive either negative or impartial responses to me being a fan of him. It's hard to change people (believe me, I know) so I don't think he really needs to. Unfortunately I think that in order for him to even try and compete he would need to get involved with the same busineses which he has bad mouthed over these years of his independence.
Also, although I find it frustrating that I don't know many people who like his music, I have learned over the years to take pride in being a fan of someone who is not that popular to the masses (at least not anymore). It just means I get even more excited when he gets mentioned in the news, which usually means he has done something big. So basically I view it as the other people who diss him are just being left out of this cool Prince club and don't realize what they are missing.

Controversy, the best "pre-global" album. Massive leap in production, and best of all, P finally dropped the falsetto.

Come, some fantastic tracks (Race, Papa, Loose), but lacked as a whole.
