I think he's happier doing the latter.

I don't recall, but the first time I Prince made my ears prick up, or make me show an interest in him was the Batdance video.

I collect all albums, I have most CD singles and all DVDs, videos and all 12"'s from 1984-1988 and hundreds of bootlegs, tapes and odd items like tour books - I then got bored of collecting Prince and now I just buy the album releases.

Q5.) Do u collect unofficial material?
I used to, but I have all I want now, all widely circulating out-takes and hundreds of live CDs that I never listen to, so I stopped collecting.

Q6.) What is ur view on collecting unofficial material, do u believe it helps record sales etc. or not?
It has NO impact whatsoever on official record sales since the only people that purchase bootlegs, and who would put up with their varying quality are the die-hard fans who already have spent tons of cash on all the official releases.

If anything they help keep interest in artists alive, just as Prince produces a lot of music, we to have a quick turnover in terms of our appetite for it, so I think it keeps our interest afloat, and fills a gap in the market.

Prince could fill that gap, he chooses not to, so there are enterprising crooks who will do it for him. And in the past I have been quite glad to give my money to bootlegs, it's no concern of mine if they are unathorized, and it's of little interest to be if Prince owns the masters to his recordings either - the contracts are legal and therefore binding, regardless of our opinion of their morality or ethics.

Yes, very much so, at present I am more interested in his protege work than officially released work in his own name.

Q8.) What is ur fave Prince album & single?
Romance 1600 is my favourite album, Mountains is my favourite single.

Albums I dislike:
- Rave
- ONA
- OF4S
- NEWS
I think Prince can, and has done better.


Q10.) Do u believe Prince's music is suitable for everyone of all ages or just for adults?
Suitable for everyone - I've heard nothing in the entire back-catalogue of Prince music that I would not let a 5 year old child listen to repeatedly.

Q11.) What r ur opinions on the content of 'Dirty Mind', 'Controversy' and 'Come'?
Dirty Mind and Controversy are bone-fide classic Prince albums and show a highly talented artist and performer in the years leading upto their height, these 2 albums represent Prince's musical adolescence for me, and as such have a lot of energy and drive. Come is good album, but fails to hang together as a solid album and leaves the listener (me) feeling dissatisfied.

I thought it was fantastic at the time, no-one else had done it! It fucked up his commercial career, but I never cared much about that any way.

Yes I am, I joined because I like to support the artists I like where possible, in terms of products they release, not their personal politics.

Yes, yes and yes.

No he does not have the potential to compete with today's popular recording artists, nor, I should hope, would he want.

Prince's time for Top40 has passed, he's had it, been there, reached the top - where can you go after a #1 single? There's no higher chart positiion, only lower - so you either keep chasing the latest fads (Rave) or follow your own path and create music that challenges you (TRC).

PRINCE'S REAL SUCCESS HAS BEEN HIS ABILITY TO BLAZE TRAILS AND TAKE US PLACES OTHER ARTISTS HADN'T VENTURED INTO. I THINK THIS SHOULD CONTINUE TO BE HIS FOCUS, NOT INDUSTRY COMPETITION.

Prince can compete with anyone, i'm glad he doesn't. he's doing his own thing and doesn't care about the charts. I enjoy what he's doin so as far as i'm concerned he shouldn't try to be mainstream again if he doesn't want to

I'm quite surprised by the number of orgers who aren't much into associated artists. Prince sounds somewhat freer when writing for others...

My mom and sister always listened to Purple Rain. It was something from that.

he has the potential. I dont think he will though. he needs to just stick to his fans he has. we are a hard bunch to please though.

Yes, but he would have to be very commercial and work with major hip hop producers to get any attention. Other than that, no.
