Dream Factory was never truly completed, so we only have the
last configuration made before it was shelved to go on (and the previous incarnations of it). Crystal Ball on the other hand was completed. Here's the tracklists for both. Dream Factory Visions Dream Factory Train The Ballad Of Dorothy Parker Strange Relationship Starfish And Coffee Slow Love I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man Sign O' The Times A Place In Heaven Crystal Ball The Cross Last Heart Witness 4 The Prosecution Movie Star All My Dreams Crystal Ball Rebirth Of The Flesh Play In The Sunshine Housequake The Ballad Of Dorothy Parker It Starfish And Coffee Slow Love Hot Thing Crystal Ball If I Was Your Girlfriend Rockhard In A Funky Place The Ball Joy In Repetition Strange Relationship I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man Shockadelica Good Love Forever In My Life Sign O' The Times The Cross Adore It's Gonna Be A Beautiful Night .

Damn good compilations in my books. I wonder how they would have been received by critics? Probably too much greatness in handle. What is it about 1987? I mean, damn. Lisa's piano piece 'Visions' opens the album, but Wendy doesn't have one.She does sing lead vocals on 'A Place In Heaven'.

I just noticed that I accidentally ommited 'It' from my
'Dream Factory' tracklist. It's also worth noting that there are two slightly different running orders for the final configuration of 'Dream Factory'... and yes, there was a guitar interlude before 'I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man' played by Wendy, and a short interlude (sometimes called 'Nevaeh Ni Ecalp A') before 'Dream Factory'. Here's both running orders... 1. Visions 2. Dream Factory 3. Train 4. The Ballad Of Dorothy Parker 5. It 6. Strange Relationship 7. Starfish And Coffee 8. Slow Love 9. I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man 10. Sign O' The Times 11. A Place In Heaven 12. Crystal Ball 13. The Cross 14. Last Heart 15. Witness 4 The Prosecution 16. Movie Star 17. All My Dreams 1. Visions 2. Dream Factory 3. Train 4. The Ballad Of Dorothy Parker 5. It 6. Strange Relationship 7. Slow Love 8. Starfish And Coffee 9. I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man 10. Sign O' The Times 11. Crystal Ball 12. A Place In Heaven 13. Last Heart 14. Witness 4 The Prosecution 15. Movie Star 16. The Cross 17. All My Dreams .

Boris (aka the vault keeper) you da man.
Anyone else actually like the backwards intro to Dream Factory? I actually like the 3 second melody it makes. Was there ever a tracklist compiled for the Roadhouse Garden disc that was never delivered to us a few yrs ago? Music is the best...

So it looks like the Warners rejected a few songs twice. I am an artist and I tell ya.. that is the most discouraging thing one could ever encounter. So discouraging that I took Prince's cue and started my own label in 1999. Geez.. just imagine how far along P would be if it weren't for them holding him back all those years.

Actually, Warners didn't reject any of Prince's songs from
either Dream Factory or Crystal Ball. Dream Factory was shelved by Prince immediately after the Revolution split, as Prince saw it very much as a 'Revolution' project. If he had gone ahead and released it, he would have had to make videos for the singles and toured the album without it's key contributors (particularly Wendy & Lisa), and Prince didn't want to do that. Warners didn't have any problems with any of the tracks on Crystal Ball, they just didn't want to release a triple album. They didn't see releasing a triple album as really being a viable commercially successful proposition. They basically told Prince that they would only release Crystal Ball if he could cut it down to a double album, but left it completely up to him as to which songs he would cut or edit to reduce the running time.

Roadhouse Garden was completed and sequenced, but the
actual tracklist has never leaked out to my knowledge. All we know is that it contained tracks like "All My Dreams", "Witness 4 The Prosecution", "Roadhouse Garden", "In A Large Room With No Light" and "Empty Room".

I honestly don't know if Roadhouse Garden will ever see the
light of day (I suspect not in the foreseeable future). There are many unreleased albums in the vault, and Prince isn't keen on releasing 'old' material, as he's always working on some current project or two. ...And yes, there is a new album completed and ready for release. From what I heard it's due for release late during the first quarter of 2004, but as you know Prince often changes his mind at the last minute so that may change.

He could sell OLD stuff online to his freaky fans (us) and NEW stuff through the stores. One should not have to exclude the other, in my opinion. I do not want to look inside Prince's mind () but it would be great to find out why exactly he holds on to so much good material. And why he edits so much of the stuff he decided to release.

Yeah, it makes a lot of sense to everyone but Prince, but since it's his stuff he has the last word - I suspect that's one of the reasons, he likes to dangle a carrot infront of people. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I think he does not tend to care what others think. He makes the music for himself. Sumtimes it feels like he just needs us to keep him going financially, though. Lots of remarks the last few years were about control, ownership and the rest. Then he gave a religious spin to it all and it got confusing to me. He does alot for his fans though. He does not have to have an internet site, a club. It is just I wish he'ld make it a bit more accesible. Logical. I'd rather that he let us pay a NORMAL ticket price and then choses some WINNERS from the club to sit on stage, instead of people with lots of cash. It seems that his business is too big and that his organisation does not practise what he preaches. Then again, that's hard with a new religion/spiritual stance every five years

I know why he doesn't like releasing old albums, and I can see
his point of view, but it doesn't stop me wishing that the door to the vault was left ajar... just a little.

Boris,
Why don't you just ask him to release this stuff since you are the only one I know who has all the answers to this stuff!!! LOL Man I thought I was on with projects and outtakes but you take it to the next level. I agree with a prev post and I also have posted about starting a real music club with an archive release every 3 months. Prince can look still look ahead while admiring the past. I will buy both old & new regardless. Hey they released the Chic Diana mix album 20 plus yrs after maybe we can get some archive albums from Prince. No light in a large room still sounds damn good to me even with some tape hiss... I think I actually prefer the grittiness on some stuff. Music is the best...

Prince knows his older material is far superior and he knows when he releases those alongside his current material the older material will get more attention and acclaim and that will confirm to himself as well as everyone else that he has lost the plot... He's still competing himself... Neversin. [This message was edited Wed Nov 5 14:40:15 PST 2003 by Neversin] O(+>NIИ<+)O
