Alright, I finished Khan's, I mean Hahn'a Book...

I just finished Alex Hahn's book, I read it quite frequently and consistently. The first half of the book I found very interesting. I like reading about Prince's early life, quite funny. I'm loving the fact that he can play basketball, I had no idea. The details about his family life were everything your typical nosey fan (like myself), could ever want to know.

Throughout the text though, the further I got into it, the more the author became critical, and opinionated. I went from reading a story to a lawsuit, with allegations and accusations. Some if not most of which were false. The negativity reached a climax when the author mentioned himself, as a legal representative for Uptown magazine (Hmmm).

Overall the text seemed to be missing a huge element: PRINCE's perception or point of view. It's nearly impossible to write a autobiographical or semi-autobiographical text without some input from the source.

Thus every page I read, I took with a grain of salt. By the time I finished the book, my breath smelled like Lawrey's!

The conclusion of the text was short and snipped off, from 'Xenophobia' on, my jaw was dropped to the floor, in surprise from the lack of truth and facts. The beginning of the book, if there were any falsehoods, i really couldn't agree or disagree, because either I wasn't born yet, or too young at the time to really know what was going on with him in the 80's. Yet, from the Xenophobia period to present, I'm adult now with a dgree in Social Sciences. I would hardly call Prince a schizophrenic, if he is, he's done a better job of hiding it than anyone in mental health history.

One thing I'm glad God blessed me with and that my mother nurished in to me, is my ability to look at things and situations objectively and without biast, with a neutral base. Something that this author either lacks or chooses not to utilize.

Not to totally bury Mr. Hahn into the ground. His text was quite entertaining to say the least. It was well worth my $30.00.

Now that I'm done reading it, I'm eager to read something based on Prince that's more equally sided. Besides, everyone has some negative characteristics, yet if they focused only on 'your' negative attributes...How would you feel?

A well said piece!
Unfortunately, until Prince decides to put pen to paper all we have are books like Alex Hahn's.
I was shocked at the amount of errors in the book, and because of that I take the book as nothing more than another £30 spent.
The book would could have done with a proof reader.

Thanks to TheBluePrince... go along with all you said and I identify with your reaction to Possessed: The Rise & Fall of Prince by Alex Hahn

What this book lacks is a discussion of the music. Will somebody please write about Prince's music.Biographies just don't hit the button for me. Read any musicians biography and it'll come out the same, let's face it, if you dedicate your life to music, there'll be all sorts of baggage, and it doesn't inform your ears. He's a musician and composer, one of the greatest of all time.

Let's hear it for his music, right?

if the music's good... all else will follow

That's a very good thought...

Could you imagine a book written and/or co-written by Prince, where the content is about songwriting...instrumentation...with accents of his life and relationships.

What a beautiful text that would be.
