Graffiti Bridge: Why oh Why?

I just can't get these 2 questions out of my mind: Why on Earth: (i) did Prince decide to shoot this (still) unidentified cinematic object; and (ii) did Warner agree to "release it" (funny)?

Don't take me wrong, the album has very good songs in it, among many crappy ones), but the movie is just, I don't know, words are too weak to define (Do you all remember when Ingrid Chavez points the Heaven up and says to The Kid: "No, Him"...arrghhh... giggle)

Please oh please answer these valid, to-the-point, essential questions. I can't take it anymore. Pressure's too high. Help! wink

Our idea for the bad movie club came from the news item that in NY drag queens had special screenings, screaming at the screen; "Push that bitch off the stairs!"

I quite liked the idea, without the drag that is.

I always think of it as an extended promo video rather than a movie like Purple Rain. That helps. shrug

After the success of the film 'Purple Rain',Prince was determined to keep making movies.I think,at this point, he felt that making an album without a movie attached to it was a total bore. So,after 'Parade','SOTT',and 'Batman' (albums that were associated with films,in some form or another),he started filming "Graffiti Bridge".The problem is,his ego got in the way of common sense.Instead of hiring a skilled director,he decided to do everything himself...write the script, direct it,star in it,write and compose all the songs, etc.Prince is great at many things, but storytelling is not one of them.'GB' is a total embarrassment, and I can hardly bring myself to watch it these days.

At one point in the evolution of out race on this planet, only ONE human being believed that the earth was not flat, but indeed a miniscule floating orb glowing alone within a mathematically perfect universe enveloping all existance.
Y'all crazy.

You're probably alluding to that 'scientifially proven' thang. Right?
I mean, the thory which alleges that it takes so long for a star's light to reach Earth that in reality it's now either a comet, black hole or fallen into itself to a create dark matter spectrum?
Bullshit, my friend. The world is flat.

i personally think the problem with the film is the cheapness, which wasnt princes fault entirely, but you cant totally blame warner for not giving him money either. i wish i was a millionaire around then and ill have thrown money at him to see what he could come up with. i mean, the stage sets were awful, but at the same time he had no money. i think the song graffiti bridge sets the tone for the film, cheap and shit. personally im not a fan of still would stand all time either. but i like all theo ther songs. direction wise i think prince is a good director:cherry moon and SOTT concert, nuff said surely! acting he is ok, nothing special but it comes off worse cos of the script, which i do think is a weak point. which is a shame, its the only thing i cant really defend in any way!

ps ingrid chavez is shit too
