Has Prince ever said which of his albums are his personal favourites?

I'm just curious as to which of Prince's albums he likes best, and worst. Which albums he's especially proud of, and which ones he can acknowledge are crap.

he said he would never out out an album as fast as he put out parade because it needed more work in his opinion.

He must have been really proud of Sign O' the TImes, because he was supposedly very very dissapointed and angry about losing the grammy to U2 for that year...

Oh my god! You serious? He definitely deserved it for that year. That really sucks.

I'm surprised he doesn't like Parade. I've heard that before, too. I just love it, personally.

I'm guessing he's quite proud of The Rainbow Children. I don't know why, I just get that vibe.

I remember listening to this radio interview he did after his Parade tour birthday gig. He said Around the World in a Day was his favorite work.

Its funny everyone compares that album to the SGT pepper album.. It really does have some relations.. like a psycoldecia subconcious or something.. i dunno, if comparing career albums, that would be a definant.. IMO SGT pepper is a standard and is way above that album, but to each its own, their both experimental gems of two great groups/artist

He did.. and I didnt like them played live at all.. and I love the black album.

The lovesexy songs sounded better live, though I dont believe any live performance of any of those songs match the amazing studio versions he pulled off.. Got more layers than a cake.

I am a huge Beatles fan but Sgt. Pepper is my least favorite of there's. It is true they do take music in a new direction and try a lot of new and unusual stuff. But take the effects away and the songs are not a patch on Revolver, The White Album, Rubber Soul or even Around The World In A Day!!
It were proper bo I tell the!! Bo Selecta!

Definitely true. More work would have killed it. Personally, I love Parade and never grow tired of
listening to it.

I agree with that thought - I think that's why Prince just raves (no pun intended) about whichever album he's on, and occasionally releases what other people might consider sub-standard material - Prince clearly doesn't consider any of it sub-standard (at least at the time).

I agree with that. I think if U would 2 ask him this question now he'd think long and hard about it. But would then say The Rainbow Children. However he did 1ce say that Emancipation was 'the album he was to make' (nuts).

I reckon that both Lovesexy and The Rainbow Children are the two that he'd be most proud of. Never on other albums has he managed to combine his passion for spirituality and music so successfully and innovatively.

TRC probably shades it for him as its more current and in touch with his beliefs now.

I reckon he's probably proud of different albums for different reasons.

Purple Rain because he deliberately wanted to make an album that would push all the right buttons commercialy. It is his most complete album in terms of presenting prince and his various talents in on album in a radio friendly-yet innovative manner.

Around The World In A Day because it was sticking the finger up at those who thought he'd reproduce Purple Rain II (which he could've done with his hands tied).

1999 because it was his first double album, and he managed to really cut loose in the studio, yet acheive some commercial success.

SOTT because...well you know, its a masterpeice.

Possibly The Truth. A collection of some of his most personal songs and best lyrics.

Dirty Mind, because it made people (the critics) take notice.

For You because it proved he could do it on his own.

All his albums represent something different in his life, and you get a real sense of career progression with all of them. Vary rarely does he regurgitate his old stuff (Rave...NPS...Emancipation).
