Wade in the Water

there's a live version of this floating round with Prince and Patti Labelle doing vocals and a miko weaver on guitar...
who did this song originally and where's the live P version from?

The version I got from Kazaa is amazing. Really mellow and bluesy.

Prince played it lots during rehearsals.

Actually the version he plays is the one of The Staple Singers. Guess why he later played with Mavis...

(Chorus)
Wade in the water.
Wade in the water, children.
Wade in the water.
God's gonna trouble the water.

Well, who are these children all dressed in red?
God's a-gonna trouble the water
Must be the children that Moses led
God's a-gonna trouble the water.

Chorus

Who's that young girl dressed in white
Wade in the Water
Must be the Children of Israelites
God's gonna trouble the Water.

Chorus

Jordan's water is chilly and cold.
God's gonna trouble the water.
It chills the body, but not the soul.
God's gonna trouble the water.

Chorus

If you get there before I do.
God's gonna trouble the water.
Tell all of my friends I'm coming too.
God's gonna trouble the water.

Chorus

I must say I do not like Ms Cassidy's music much...

Have you heard The Staple Singers version?

I can't stand Eva and all her awful cover versions. If she was alive, no-one would give a toss about her.

Anyway, back to topic - I like the Blind Men Of Alabama version.

Moonbeam

I've never heard Prince's version of this. We used to sing this during music class in 6th grade. I really liked it back then!

The way he plays guitar on it, just like Pops Staples.

Nice one.

But the Ramsey Lewis version rocks! It works up every dance floor.
