Wondering if anyone can shed some light on the nasty but well-known rumor that one should not look Prince directly in the eye. Is this true, and if so, why?

As far as something OTHER than a joke goes, the only reference I've heard regards the 1985 American Music Awards, where his "people" supposedly told the coordinators of the event to announce that no one sitting in his row should speak to Prince out of turn or even look him in the eye.

I've locked eyes with him before. I was just coming into the L41A room at PP and he was behind the soundboard. Maybe he thought I had a gun under my black trenchcoat or something. Anyway, I kind of looked away with a smile and he must have thought it was all cool, then. I met a crew worker on the LOVESEXY tour. He told me that when Prince entered the arena, a whistle was blown which acted as a signal for all workers to turn their backs as a means of preventing them looking at him. The guy gav me his lovesexy crew t-shirt too! Yeah!
