Does any1 have any detailed info on Prince's dispute with Warners

I was wondering if any1 has any detailed info on Prince's dispute with Warner's.

Did he really sign a $100m contract with the label?
Why did he change his name 2 0(+>?
etc. etc.

I would like some detailed replies

Thanx smile

If you are gonna post something so juvenile, please post a warning with it so I won't get fired for a huge dildo popping up on my screen.

basically, from what i know, after diamonds and pearls was a success, prince was hot property again. so warners signed him to this "$100 million contract" where he got something like $10 mill upfront, $10 mill to run paisley park, then $10 million for every album that sold over 5 million copies worldwipe. if an album didnt sell that he didnt get that much cash. im not sure how many albums this was in effect for but dont think it was 8 so maybe there were others things involved. anyway supposedly princes lawyer and everyone around him told him to sign the deal but he did, then got annoyed when warnes wouldnt let him release gold experience because they felt he was saturating the market as he wanted to released 4 albums a year by this point.

anyway prince wanted out, supposedly he had never forgiven warners for making him do sign o the times 2lp instead of crystal ball 3lp set. so he changed his name to a symbol thinking it would release him from his warners contract as he was nolonger prince. however you cannot legally change your name to a symbol so it didnt fully work (why he didnt change his name to tim then i dont know!). for some reason warners let him release as symbol, though im not sure whether they were required to or just said fuck it let him do what they want. before this all went off they said ok release the most beautiful girl, this turned out to be ahuge hit thus making prince think it was warners fault he wasnt as successful as he used to be.

anyway, he released as symbol signing deals with other companies, such as a one off with emi in 96 and arista in 99. meanwhile releasing contractual obligation albums such as come, the hits/b-sides, black album, chaos and disorder and old friends 4 sale: the vault.

although at the time he said he changed his name for spiritual reasons when his contract with warner ran out in 2000 he officially changed his name back to prince!

anyone can feel free to clarify/correct/add to this!

I always thought the one-hundred million dollar contract came right after Purple Rain... before the first PP release, Around The World In A Day
