Gold Nigga I'm missing this album. What's your verdict? Is it any good? Should I whack out for the 1st edition with the extra track or screw that and buy the normal version?
and what was that NPG 'Power Pack' album like? "You know, you're the classic example of the inverse ratio between the size of the mouth and the size of the brain"

Like Exodus, it's a Prince album by any other name. There's no denying there's some excellent old-school/hip hop fusion jams on this beast.
Alas, Mr and Mrs M made love one night and I'm afraid they had a son called Tony.

Alas, Mr and Mrs M made love one night and I'm afraid they had a son called Tony. I enjoy it, for sure. I wouldn't call Tony a rap-master by any stretch of the imagination, but I think he gets more flack then he deserves. Except for when he acts like a sex-symbol, I don't feel he detracts from this album at all. I believe Johnny alone makes this album worthwhile, and I've always had a soft spot for Call the Law. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate and accept the fact that Tony Mosley could string mysogonistic sentence together like a supa-camp Ice Cube and burn his tongue with the speed the words shot out of his purty mouth, but... Only a few years beofre, there was boy-girl space creature called Prince who wasn't really a man, wasn't a woman, preached love and extolted communication with God through sexual intercourse. Enter the Game Boyz. Exit Prince's hardcore elite, wave hello to casual record buyers who liked Thieves In The Temple, Gett Off and Cream. Kids. You know. The kind that dig Justin and Evanessence now. With a change of birthname, he sent a farewell kiss to these casual record buyers just as he gets his act together and releases The Gold Experience. That dot in the distance is the former hardcore elite who are now married with kids and have grown out of this silly idol-worship thing. They think The Most Beautiful Girl In The World is a bit cheesy compared to When Doves Cry. They don't get to hear Dolphin or Shy. Cue, career suicide.

and what was that NPG 'Power Pack' album like? I say buy the regular version, if you're lucky you will find it on ebay for not too ridiculous money. However, the first version with "Guess who's knockin'" goes for some stupid sums. Saw one a couple of weeks ago go for $70+, and it was even listed as a CDr copy! I've had this for years, bought it at the NPG shop in Camden, and I must say that Tony M's "rapping" doesn't ruin it. Some great tracks and funny segues, well worth the investment. I'm trying to acquire the pulled track, but never seem to be able to "grab" it before it is pulled, if you get my meaning. All orgnotes and emails requesting trades or how to acquire bootleggage will be ignored. - The ThreadKiller -

Johnny is fun the rest of the album imho average

There are some good moments on the album. I think Johnny is great and I've always liked Call the Law after seeing Sacrifice of Victor. I have the bog standard version of Gold Nigga (no extra track) and it still cost a bit. If you can get it for a not too ridiculous sum then buy it.
Black M.F. is pretty funky too!! I'll leave graffiti where you've never been kissed

I love the instrumentals.
It's basically a pretty good album, it just feels cut up by all the silly Tony M segues (Gold Nigga pt.1,2,3 etc) All the songs are pretty good, everyone always says Johnny is the only track worth bothering, but I think that's only because it's the "Prince" track on the album where he does vocals and it's a like a long funk jam. 2Gether Call The Law Deuce & 1/4 Goldie's Parade Oilcan All good stuff. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm a sucker for a major chord

Those are the only 6 worthy tracks. The rest of the cuts are crap. To break it down further: Deuce & A Quarter and Oilcan are instrumental jams. Goldnigga Pt. 2 & Call the Law are ok tunes. Black MF & Johnny are what make the cd worth buying. 2 great raunchy Prince & The Band songs. Never to see the likes of again.
