Prince and DirecTV All this month they are showing the Aladdin Performance on DirecTV Freeview. I know of a showing beginning in about 15 minutes on Channel 103. I caught it last nite. Pretty good.
Better than I thought. Still, too much post-performance editing effects in it for my tastes. Did the locale (Vega$) push him towards a more schlocky presentation? At times I felt like I was watching Dino or Frank's revue. Can't say I really cared for his rendition of "Whole Lotta Love" (I just don't dig his whispery falsetto and I totally missed the point behind the hanky on the guitar; he did a whole lotta nothin'). I still wish Prince would put out an unedited concert without special treatment or cuts to non-concert footage. I find it maddening an authorized full concert vid doesn't exist for someone of this caliber. test | |
