Haven't heard this album, nor his take on one of my favorites, Nothing Compares. I'll have to get that cd,Holding Back the Years. I don't know if I'd necessarily agree with you about the Nina Simone connection although I'll now listen for it. Nancy Wilson says that her style was influenced by Jimmy Scott and if you put them both in the CD player and "random" the play, you can hardly tell the difference between them so I might say HER style (except that it's really HIS style that she took)! I do think that more people should hear him (the voice is mesmerizing) and read about him. He has an interesting story to tell about the ups and downs of his career and his life. Never trust anything spoken in the presence of an erection.
