Don't shoot me because this has nothing to do with his musical genius, but I have been thinking for a while now... does Prince smoke?

If not, why is everyone else on his video clips smoking all the time and why on a few songs (I suppose) does he make reference to smoking (17 days - "All I got is 2 cigarettes and this broken heart of mine")

17 Days was written for Brenda Bennett of A6/V6 to sing, it was gonna be on the A6 album.

He used to hit a joint every once in a while when he was younger, but I doubt that he was ever into smokin tobacco.

There was a story on the news here one time about how he paid people around him $50 each to put out their cigarettes at some bar.

I have a bootleg of a recent aftershow in Europe (I think) in which he preaches to the crowd about the anm=mount of cigarette smoke in the club and how it is affected his voice. He went on to speak on the tabacco companies that sell the cigarettes. I think it was London

I saw a picture of him once, I don't know what year it was, but he had his hands to his side and there was a cigarete between his fingers. But at a German aftershow one time, he said something to the effect, i'm leaving the stage for ten minutes, if there is still cigarette smoke, I'm out of here.

In fact, i believe the ONLY person he never made a big deal out of smoking was lisa, for whatever reason that may be.

A guy that fit and athletic with his dancing and general performance and powerful singing could not be a smoker.

I agree with all thats been said, thats why on the 'love 4 one another' feature i was so surpised to see him appear to be sparking something and then coughing during one of his performances, maybe 'days of wild'. It was the scene in which he was playing on the same soundstage that the 'gold' video is shot, and he is wearing like snow boots and skiing goggles (i think). Does anyone know what im talking about?
