15 YEARS AGO TODAY

WOOOHOOO!!!
It was the night of the Detroit Lovesexy show. The second time I seen Prince in concert. (first time was Purple Rain), and it was awesome.worship

Didn't know anything about the show and it blew me away. The first half was all the stuff we expected from him-funky and nasty. And the second half was very spiritual from the Lovesexy album.

AND IT ROCKED. headbang
Finally got to hear this show on cd.

Thanks Prince!!!

Two days previous, on Oct. 28, 1988, I saw Prince for the first-time ever in Pittsburgh on the Lovesexy Tour. I was in college at Edinboro U near Erie, PA, and I had met some new friends in the communications department who digged Prince.

The girl had four tickets to see Prince at "The Igloo" and we sat in the upper deck behind the stage. If I recall, I was sitting a good 10-12 row back and I was on the Dr. Fink side of the stage.

Was able to take a few snaps of the concert but with my chincy camera (not the digital we have nowadays) the stage is small and the action is sometimes blurry. I do have three images that turned out very well -- the entire band splashed in white at the far end of the stage, Prince draped in purple and fog during Purple Rain and alphabet letters floating around during the encore of Alphabet. St.

There were these two football players that had a game at California, northeast of Pittsburgh, but they were with the team and the concert was on a Saturday night and they were not able to go.

Remember Prince played Eye Wish U Heaven and Take This Beat together. At the time I was in my first year at the college and the main deejay at the school radio station that I volunteered at (WFSE 88.9FM) had a promo copy of Eye Wish U Heaven/Scarlet Pussy 12-inch and he dubbed it for me on cassette. It was a great ride down I-79 and then back up again. Asked the guy who "Camille" was and he was unsure becauase, at the time, I did not know and that the flip side of thr 45 and 12-inch was back with simple peach lettering.

Even better was the knowledge of scoring The Black Album vynil boot and cheering when Prince and the band worked in Superfunkicalifragisexi as well as Bob George. It was like I was the only onw who knew the lyrics.

Remember before we left all of us could have gone to a club for an afterparty but we did not. If we did, we would have seeen Prince and Shelia and Cat.

Never forget it. ...

See you all Saturday, I'll tell you guys more about it, including playing Le Grind, Cindy C and 2 Nigs at various times during my "soul flight" music block in the evenings at the school. I threw on Prince all the time, including world premiering I Can't Stop This Feeling Eye Got and Joy In Repetition after reading about the Graffiti Bridge project in Spring 1990. I even played The Ladder and I Love U In Me and the 19-minute Scandalous Sex Suite complete at the end of my shift, around 1:40 am during the quiet storm segment of the show.

Ah, those were the days, thanks Sansker! ...

I saw LoveSexy some time in the summer of 88 in Chicago. I remember deciding at the last minute to go with a few friends who had tickets.

15 years and 5 days ago, he played the Cap Centre in DC. Absolutely brilliant. I have the laminated ticket.
