In love with those marvellous musicians I know a lot of you miss the Revolution, the 1st NPG, the 2nd NPG, the SOTT & Lovesexy band tour.
And yes, I miss them so much too. Any musician who has played with Prince is like a friend for me. But guys, what about this incredible last band!!! I think they are the best musicians Prince have ever had: like other said: musicians at the top of the game. Sheila or Eric are better now than 15 years ago, the same as Prince (maybe he doesn't compose "killer" singles or easy tunes, but doubtless he is a better musician), and Maceo on sax, Greg on trombone, Rhonda on bass (the best one: she plays fretless, slap, acoustic double bass, I love her versatility), Renatto plays much better than Mr Hayes or Dr Fink, and John is probably one of the best drummers in the world nowadays. I have watched again LV DVD, I have heard ONA, the bootlegs, and all the time I feel that it's true: they are real musicians, playing real music... AND I LOVE THEM VERY MUCH!!! Don't you feel the same?

i thought the band on the ona tour were sen-sational ! , i am very surprised by how much stick is dished out 2 this current band 4 being 2 jazz orientated.i thought they were funky and jazzy , u only have 2 listen 2 ona live in particular family name , 1+1+1 is 3,the work etc...funky ! i think this band r great , i remember at the gigs thinking 2 myself where does he get these great musicians time and again !
i also love d the early 90's michael b , sonny ,levi, morris h,tommy b. etc ! probably cos i met em all a couple o times ... makes me biased ! i suppose !

I stopped paying attention to whomever was contemporarily in his band back in '96 or so. They're just background. The star is center stage. FREE THE 29 MAY 1993 COME CONFIGURATION!

Im pretty much there for Prince..sure his band is crack ace etc...Im just saying though. He has been through so many damn memebers that Im sick of hearin whos on bass this year, whos gone from keys...I guess one could say I dont get a feel for the perosnality of the bands anymore...if he would keep shit steady fro 5 minutes maybe then I could feela connection...right now I feel good about Renato and I still dont know Rhonda and only feel like Ive heard of John. Renato to me is someone that I feel connected with for some reason "Climb in my fur."

The new NPG is easily as good as the 87-88 group (interestingly, Sheila and Eric are still around) But I have to put my two cents in here. The NPG 92-95 are his worst group. Just look at the albums he recorded with them. Some of his worst work. All the gals say hoe if your man's giving up the gold. All the fellas say ruff if you're only giving up the bone.

I agree completely. Well, I know it's difficult to understand changes. When Prince decided to dissolve the NPG with Sonny T, Michael B. and T. Barbarella, I felt sad. But I believe in evolution: if Prince wants to play more difficult things, he needs better musicians. As simple as that. There is no problem with personality, Prince is the only and the one, if he is on stage, for me it's enough. However, I want to find the best musicians with him: if he wants to play jazz, Brown Mark, for instance, cannot be his bassist. I love Rhonda, Renato & John: they are great. And to see Maceo, Greg, Candy and Eric, and Sheila, playing with Prince is a pleasure.

I think the question it is that Rhonda is best than Sonny, Renato than Tommy and John than Michael. And another difference, some hornz or Eric/Candy/John/Sheila. About the 87-88 band, I disagree. I love those shows and maybe this is the "clasique" Prince. But Eric plays now better, same as Prince or Sheila, they have more experience (oh damn, it was 15 years ago), and I don't believe that band played at the same level as this one.

hold up hoss...it is not "difficult to understand changes" for me. I realize he has to change for growth and personalities dont work out etc etc..Im jus' sayin after 25 years of interchanging bands, you cant expect me myself to feel a connection each go round...thats my thing. The Stones have had the same basic personell forever..but as long as they got Mick and Keith thats mainly what Im there for--add Charlie I mean too..but with Prince as the main drag thats who I got into and remain into...sort of like I sometimes cant stand hearing some Rev songs done by this new band..and I dont want the Rev to do Days o Wile either etc...but I understand things change for a myriad of reasons..I cant help it if his longevity fails to connect me with each change though. typos like a mug edit [This message was edited Wed Oct 29 16:11:33 PST 2003 by rdhull] "Climb in my fur."

Yeah, I understand you, but the difference is that the Rolling Stones is a band, and Prince is a singer, maybe he tries to seem he plays in a band, and for this reason all of us love the Revolution, we see them as a group, but this is not the reality. I don't "love" this band beacause I feel a connection. I'm talking about objectivity. First at all, I love Prince's music, and I don't mind what band are behind him. But when I hear the last albums or concerts, in my opinion I hear the best band Prince have ever had, and to see Prince playing funky music with the master Maceo Parker, wow, I have no words. But I see your point.
