Alexa De Paris guitar???

Okay, so that is one of my favorite instrumental Prince has ever put together. I love the way he mixes guitar and orchestra. I know Claire Fisher is responsible for the orchestration behind the music, but is that Wendy playing the beautiful guitar lead in the song? What role does Prince play in this song (other than composer)?

Hmmm...always thought it was P on geetar.

Agreed, though - this is by far my favorite Princestrumental. The first time I heard this when I bought the Mountains 12", I nearly had a mental breakdown.

Oh man, 2 minutes and 1 second into the song... that cool ass guitar playing always gets me... what with the orchestra complimenting the guitar riff and the drum rolls, I love it. So much that my wife and I have put together a waltz/dance type of thing to this song and will do it as a follow-up to our first dance at our wedding on the 8th of November. Incredible stuff this song is. It's a complex arrangement.

Alexa de Paris came on once while I was asleep, and it flowed into my dream. I felt like my body was playing the music and it was a very sensual moment!

OOOOOH.... IT'S ON NOW!!! Which is it, Wendy or Prince? She's been known to wail on a guitar very beautifully in the past. I mean, who thought that it was Prince who played the guitar on When Doves Cry live when it was actually Wendy?

How 'bout this, you know Prince's control on things, so maybe he played the guitar on the original recording and Wendy would play it live in concert? How does that fancy y'all?

I'm sure is Prince on guitar, when the band is live the things goes in a different way, compare this song to "Pink Cashmere", it's doubtless is Prince.
And I prefer Prince's When Doves Cry studio version than Wendy's live.

Thanks, 2 Freaky...

It was Prince on the record...period. Wendy didn't play guitar on Kiss or When Doves Cry either.

They both played on the track and Wendy does do the lead line. And I think we all know that Wendy doesn't play on When Doves Cry seeing how it's credited to Prince alone. Anytime Alexa de Paris was played live it was all Wendy.

of COURSE it's Prince!

You can tell those modal runs are him anyday.

Wendy MAY have played it Live, but that is DEFINITELY Prince on record.

Prince himself could say "Wendy played guitar as well" and someone would still be in denial that anyone besides Prince played it. So what's the point of the going any further with this?

Ok. Some people say Prince is not a good guitarist because he has not an own style.
This is absolute false, and this thread prove it.
I'm not God, and despite believing he is on guitar, maybe it's Wendy. Not a problem. Because the point is that you hear that and think: it's Prince's playing guitar way.
Is it Prince or Wendy imitating Prince? Doesn't matter.
But Wendy plays different, and I bet it's not her.

this is the org, God himself could say it's Wendy and people would still say it's him
What's the point in reasoning?

anyways, I believe they're both playing, prince playing lead

Wendy also wrote "Sexy Dancer" and "I Feel 4 U".She also sings lead vocal on "Adore", but she let Prince have all the credit... cuz that's just the kind of generous person she is...

Of course its Prince on guitar, but almost certainly Wendy on rhythm guitar.
You can hear her Rickenbaker strumming away.

Why the hell would Prince release a song that's basically one big guitar solo by someone else imitating his style very minutely? Hell, if he did that I would stand a chance of getting a record out! smile

No way, that couldn't have been Wendy on guitar. Prince is the kind of guitarist that will rip the solo up with his cool disstortion and Hendrix/Santana style wails. Wendy, on the other hand played a Rickenbacker for pete's sake. You can't rock out like that on a Rickenbacker!
