It's About Da Money! Okay - It is fantastic for the Australian people who have not seen Prince perform live for such a long long time ... and the concerts sound fantastic from the reports.
But let's be honest, Prince said he was not going to play his classic tracks again live, and ONA Live was all about not coming to 'get your Purple Rain on' - it was not about what 'you know, but what you are willing to learn'. It simply begs the question, the one and only reason Prince has done this tour of Australia is for the $$$. Discuss?

It's a moot point IMHO. Does any artist tour purely for the benefits to the soul? Just somewhere in the middle,
Not too good and not too bad.

Its kinda like the Nude Tour back in '90. Classic money-maker. "Peace and Benz -- The future, made in Germany"

Even "if" it was for the money..he's allowed. I know he is being semi hypocritical but come on now...he isnt ging to a place he hasn't toured in a decade only to play new songs..they'd be pissed. I think he read of a great cry for him to come to ports rarely travelled and said "lets do it" but knew he had to deliever on what they have heard as classics..and for the most part it seems like the right thing to do. They hadnnot heard the same songs over and over live like other countried mainly the U.S. have. Even so..most artists still have to pay the bills and Prince is not immune to that..so if it even was for the money..he's allowed. He has to support his company too. "Climb in my fur."

That's not my point, and frankly I don't give a damn, but what other reason did he do a HITS tour, when his whole approach for ONA Live was exactly the opposite, new directions in his music... To be honest, if I were Australian, I would have preffered to hear ONA Live out there! Not bloody Baby, I'm A Star ... come on!

If you haven't gotten used to Prince saying one thing and doing the exact opposite by now, there's nothing any of us can do for you.

I'm getting to a point where I don't waste much time puzzling through the logic or morality of what Prince does, because it's never gonna make sense, and anyway, it's not like he's out there shooting people up or peeing on little girls' heads and taping it. Prince is milking more $$$ out of his hits? Woe is me, my kingdom is crumbling.
Oftentimes, "visionary" artists will take on very commercially lucrative projects to fund their more experimental or personal work. A painter might do some work for a Nike ad, or an independent filmmaker might take a part in a big Hollywood blockbuster to fund his or her next small indie film - folks do what they can to get the scratch for what they need. If I were Prince, I could think of worse ways to raise money than by playing the hits that made me a star in the first place.

A good example is probably the Coen brothers "intolerable cruelty", a much more commercial film, which will probably make them enough money to do 5-8 of their more offbeat cult type films.

Prince is lootin' but no matter how much money he has, he will always sing those songs. Think of how much time and energy he put into all of them... those are his kids. We may just get a piano medley with bits of choruses and verses but he will always sing the hits.
