Did Purple Rain "Type Cast" Prince?

Well he would have ended it on top of the game so to speak. I realize "PR" was his 6th LP (not including side projects) and he was only 26 years old when it came out
Yeah to me based on the content of those 6 LPs of "publicly released" work he should be considered a "DIVINE GENIUS" as he is to many. (this goes further in another thread)

Okay one more thing is that he has given us about 23 more beautiful bodies of work (released). Has that oversaturated our idea of what a "Genius" should be or is. And as of late has he tried to please so many of us with different styles and forms of his musical expression that we become bent to say he is not as good as he used be because his music does not just tend to follow one path like that cursed "1999-Purple Rain" LP did?
More to the point: Did Prince's success from Purple Rain "typecast" his music to the point that the masses wanted to hear nothing as adventurous as almost all of his post PR experimental and superior works such as but not limited to: "SOTT, Parade, Lovesexy, TRC, O)+>, Gold, Emancipation, and the "X"phobia LP?

This is true of of most artist in the pop genre, but how can his longivity be explained? Some of his musical experiments did work really well.

It can be explained in that prince is one of those creative people who needs to create. Most people on the music scene probably do it as much for the fame and money than the urge. Prince is the closest thing to a human jukebox as i've ever seen. He simply cannot stop making music. His output is really to widespread and varied to truly comprehend. That's why u have so many people stuck at different points in his career or also stuck only apreciating certain types of songs. U have to have a pretty diverse mentality to except the totality of his talent. It truly is beyond most people. For me even in his lessor songs there or moments that leave me awed. That's why i have a hard time with the dismissiveness of so many of the orgers. They seem to equate whether they personally dig a song with its actual artistic mermit. I always see the brilliant mind at work even in the most mundane work.
