The Minnesota ACCENT in his songs..

I was listening to "Gotta Stop Messin' About" this morning, and it sounded like he sang "Gotta Stop Messin' ABOAT" :p What songs can you hear him with a MN accent? I know there is a song on C&D where he mimics a MN cop or something.. any others?

I love it when he shows his Minnesota roots. My favorite, of many, is "Back to minneapolis, dere ya go, can't find your house undaneath da snooow..."

My friend and I were talking about this very subject during the last celebration. My friend said, "Prince doesn't have that Minnesota accent." I agree with her, he doesn't. biggrin

yes he does.. when he's just talking... all you have to do is listen to rehearsals, when there's no audience.

My friends cracked up when they heard prince's normal voice... its quite nerdy!

He's always performing in the rock star "Prince" voice when he's in front of an audeince.

I have always laughed at Continental when he supposedly says "I be like Yeah man, cuz i ant the main thang". Now if you listen closely it sounds like he says "I be like Yeah MAIN.." maybe it is his accent, cuz we don't talk like that here in New Yawk. nod

Take it from me: My wife is a Minnesotan & i spend most of my vacations (!?!?!) there ( we live in the bay area)...

Prince has got the accent. Now that I live with a person who has the accent, I hear it so much more now...And especially know he does because my wife always says "what nooo-. he duz-int godd en ak scent..."

It freaked me out when I discovered my favorite musician and my favorite film makers (the Coen brothers) where from the same city. I should visit there one day! Imagine Purple Rain in the setting of Fargo, phew! (am I going off topic here? They say "ya" all the time in Fargo)

I'm sorry, but you guys don't even know what you're talking about, not everyone from Minnesota has an "accent" I was born and raised there, just moved to CA about 5 years ago. I am 31 and Prince speaks just the way I do an there is no accent, I just grew up like 2hrs south of him so there!!!
