purple rain

does anyone else take this album/movie/single 4 granted ?

let me try and xplain, i love the album and the single i really love the various live versions of the song !specially the 18 minute ver from syracuse !

but when it comes 2 picking my faves ! , well purple rain is nowhere simply because i really do just take it 4 granted.

do u know what i mean ?

firstly i was never keen on the movie , i much prefer utcm.

purple rain the song and album , must b regarded as 2 of his very finest moments they r his most rewarding financially (well 4 warners anyway!) its the 1 song/album worldwide that ever1 knows was by prince !

but 4 me i never consider them when pickin favourites !!!

ever !!!

what bout u guy's ?

Well,it's my third favorite Prince album, right after '1999' and 'SOTT'.But I see your point.I think it has to do with the fact that it was so successful, and so "mainstream".Maybe that's why some fans don't always appreciate it?

true--seems like all folks outside the fanbase pay attention to the mainstream crap, and radio has basically played pr into the ground...you can only stand so much, y'know...ill

I agree - aftre awhile, u play ANY album or single enough, and u WILL get sick of it.

Now, if I like an album I wont play it 2 death and run it in2 the ground - or I'll end up looking at my collection and wondering WTF 2 put on!

Yeah - I think u are right 2 some degree, it is taken 4 granted due 2 the sheer enourmity of its success.

most favorites are special to the individual listener alone. it's easy to take purple rain for granted when very few homes are/were without one. it was an amazing time for prince and music in general. we probably have mtv to thank for much of that. purple rain is an awesome album, and the song itself.. my mom was in tears at the fucking cinema. tears coming from a lady who threatened to take away my controversy album a few years prior after hearing jack u off blaring from my bedroom. the syracuse '85 performance shows just how special those purple rain tracks are.

i really have to be in the mood to hear purple rain...album or single...its just really over played. sometimes i need a jolt of familiarity or nostalgia and i throw it on and sometimes it is just what the dr. ordered but usually, i rarely take it out of the case.

now, the b sides and extended plays from that era are a different story...wink

All classic are taken for granted. It is the nature of being a classic. It is always there and people dont forget it. It gets played over and over through the years. You can see it on TV, in any video or record store, on the net, in history books or libraries. It will always be the work that the world identifies with Prince just as Thriller will always be used to define MJ; as is Catch a Fire with Bob Marley or Songs in the Key of Life with Stevie Wonder

Purple Rain has some really good songs: Darling Nikki and The Beautiful Ones rate among my faves.
