C-Note [Dagnammit] Why doesn't anyone recognise "C-Note" as a genuine album
around here? A lot of people seem to have never even heard about it at all. So are there really a lot of people who downloaded just a single track when they got that npgmc email and did not find out about the other 4 tracks?? It's an incredible album people. I burnt myself a copy & have been enjoying it ever since the tracks were 1st put up on npgmc. I've placed the original unedited 13:37min. "Copenhagen" at the end as a special bonus. It's short. Very short, especially without the bonus cut but that doesn't make it any less special. I won't even start about the other songs, but you have to admit that "Osaka" & "Tokyo" are pretty special. Would you have imagined Prince coming up with this, after NPS and RAVE and all that? To think it was cut live for the most part makes it even more special. You can even hear the audience in some parts. Yup, for me "C-Note" is the middle album in a weird jazzy instrumental trilogy that started with "Xpectation" and -for now- ended with NEWS. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

With the exception being that there isn't anything on either 3 discs of ONA Live that's remotely as interesting as those C-Note Trax Just kidding, to each their own, I just don't like Ona Live and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

I think I must have joined the NPGMC right after "C-NOTE" and "XPectation"... I had 2 find Xpectation online, and couldn't find "C-Note"... I'm still curious.
I WILL be buying the 7CD set, as I wasn't a member before. I do have ONA shows from Copenhaugen, Tokyo, etc... I wonder if I already have a few of these. Peace. G. "He's a musician's musician..."

As far as I know they're all instrumental trax taped at the soundchecks in the cities which name they've been dubbed: Copenhagen from Copenhagen soundcheck etc etc. I'm tempted to perhaps buy the boxset just to have those songs in CD quality. they are THAT great. believe me. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Yeah... I do have the Copenhaugen one... 14:29. This blew me away when I first heard it... so clean and tight, it sounds from the studio, not soundcheck!!! ...and well recorded.
I can only hope the others are as tight as this. I also hope Copenhaugen didn't get chopped. Thanks, Bro. G. "He's a musician's musician..."

Initially Copenhagen was about 3:30 minutes longer, but they
took that version down and put up a new one. The only difference is that they took the first 3-4 minutes off. The rest is just the same. It was probably something to do with the fact that those first few minutes featured "Jean Piere" by Miles Davis. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

I stopped using the laptop I downloaded them on right after it came out. I don't think I've ever listened to any of the tracks, save Empty Room, in its entirety. http://elmadartista.tumblr.com/ http://twitter.com/madartista

I LOVE those CNote tracks...
I even started a thread on "Osaka" months ago but it went largely unnoticed... When I finally took the time to listen to all 4 properly I fell in love...especially "Copenhagen" that´s got some fascinating moments. For me the trilogy Xpectation, CNotes and NEWS is highly satisfying...I just can´t understand why some people are continually dogging Prince´s most recent music I really think he is on the right track again and I am so glad for that

I love the OTE part, but the CN don't do too much for me. It's definitely not an album or worth being one as-is! Life it ain't real funky unless you got that orgPop.

nah, its not an album.. its just 4/5 songs from the tour.. thats it.. nothing more..

C-NOTE - the extended EP, anyone? I would love to have had a few more tracks like these to make a full album.
Nagoya, Osaka and Tokyo all rock, and the latter 2 display a (probably coincidental) early 'Massive Attack' influence. Very nice momentoes of perhaps Prince's best ever tour. I don't begrudge him going out on his current tour to make some money from his 'greatest hits songbook', but it's a shame that he's not out there doing 'the work', ie. giving the people real music for today that he truly believes in, rather than nostalgia music from someone he once was, listened to by people who want to look back rather than forward. It's a shame 'the marketplace' won't let him do this, and tour music like 'Xpectation', NEWS & C-NOTE (with and without vocals) stuff properly (with maybe some choice 'oldies' amd rarities like 'Empty Room' thrown in). It's a sad comment on the state of the 'commercial music industry' that real artists like Prince have to drag their old catalogue around the world to make some dough when I'm sure they'd rather be concentrating on showing off their newest stuff.I love the old stuff, but I'd rather hear (mostly) new stuff showing us where he is now. Or am I being too harsh?
