ARMS OF ORION - the poorest Prince song ever?

I was just wondering, which song you think is the worst song he ever wrote.

My opnion on ARMS OF ORION is this; i don't think it's overal that bad. If he had done it in another arrangement, or with another co-singer, it might sound quite ok.

I think the worst songs written ever by Prince is (sometimes)to be found in his collaborations :
THE BIG PUMP / PARADIGM (both with George Clinton)
HEY LOUIS LOUIS (with Louis Louis)
BLISS (with the Japanese popstar Kahoru Kohiruymaki)

SUPERHERO
PLAYER
GOODBYE
WITH THIS TEAR (my god! for Celine Dion for fucks sake! wink smile ) I think this isss the worst written song ever! (or is it just because Celine -of-whom-you'd-wish-she-sank-with-the-titanic- Dion throws all of her noise & testines all over it.. i don't know. wink Or maybe the same critic here; if re-arranged and sung by someone else.. it might've gotten somewhere.)

Prince rarely makes something I don't like but I think ARMS OF ORION is his poorest and spoils and otherwise floorless album (actually I ain't keen on Batdance either). But I'm glad he made them because I know other people enjoy / like / love them.

It's not one of my favourite but I don't think it is the poorest song ever written by Prince.
IMO this award would be for "Tick Tick Bang"...

I can't believe that we can have a thread about Prince's poor writing skills, and my thread on the pooptoast N.E.W.S. project gets shut down in minutes disbelief I have seen bootleg threads last longer.

Ever heard the original of "Tick Tick Bang"?
Now that is (kind of) an example of how a good arrangement can do honor to a composition! I think the original with it's raw sound and echo is far more better than the released version on Graffiti Bridge.
Isn't that a composition from 1981 btw?

Arms of Orion is bad but its nowhere near as bad as Graffiti Bridge in my opinion. That one makes me barf.

Also who said Superhero and Goodbye? I like both of those...no award winners for sure...but good none-the-less.

queer greeting to you, and sorry for whappenend to your post.
I like N.E.W.S. when i hear in in an elevator. ANd recently,i heard it being used as background music for a documentary about car accidents and it's victims. eek Really. It had three different trax from this new CD. I was a bit surprised as i had the telly on while i was cooking.
I recognised the sound immediately. SO i picked it up again that night, and had a whole noe listen to it with headphones. Still for me it's like a second hand MADHOUSE album. I can't hear that new directions in garage music that much.

You're right, the original is from 1981-1982 and yes, I've listened to it.
I agree that this version is better, but I have to admit that I find the GB version the more "anti-music" tune ever released by P.
Obviously just my opinion.

Aw man, I like Paradigm. It's silly.

Arms of Oriion has always been my most disliked Prince song, and Graffiti Bridge is on that list, too...I can't listen to either of 'em or else I fall into a sugar coma.

No way is this his worst song.

Musically it is quite interesting - compared with other songs of his which are basically musically non-existant

and NO I am NOT going to list them
If you can't figure that out for yourself then what difference will me telling you which songs help ?

Syrupy and corny it is, but I like those types of songs smile

Armos of orion is a very deliberate attempt to write a movie love song, and it succeeds well.

Graffiti Bridge is a horrible cheesy mess that is almost unforgivable. Jughead, now that sucked big time. Billy jack bitch, I Rock Therefore I Am, Poom Poom, Hot Wit U,are all tracks that i could live without. Cant listen to them at all.

How dare you list "Bliss" and "Player?" Those are among his best outtakes!

I like "The Arms of Orion" as well. It's not even close to the worst on "Batman" in my opinion.
